Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I was able to score a set last week and even got them installed yesterday, so I'm all set for now.
Leading evidence: 'Install yesterday' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'best option' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install yesterday' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Honestly, Gert's method of replacing the cells is probably the best option for the money.

I figured someone had to have done an exhaust replace/upgrade recently.

I'm getting closer to needing to replace both cats sooner than later due to increased frequency of Cat Efficiency codes (P0420/P0430) on both sides.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey everyone,
I'm getting closer to needing to replace both cats sooner than later due to increased frequency of Cat Efficiency codes (P0420/P0430) on both sides. I had reached out to Gert to see if he had any available that I could buy and send my cores once swapped, but he didn't have any on hand. Car is my daily driver, so sending current cats is a pain. I could probably figure it out logistically, but looking to see what's available before I get too far down that path.
Does anybody have, or know of, any recent take-off's from a 996.2 (my car is a 2002 specifically). I figured someone had to have done an exhaust replace/upgrade recently.
Any info or pointers to someone that may have a pair of decent OEM cats in good shape would be much appreciated. (I'm in California, so limited in my options. Even used OEM take-offs are technically against the rules, but I figured I would ask and see what's out there.)
Thanks in advance.
I still have my 996.1 cats fs. Will do $300 plus shipping for the pair, if your interested. Not sure on flow rates and such, all I know is the further o2 sensor by the muffler tip is going to need a slightly longer wire.
Thanks. I vaguely remember coming across a thread somewhere that mentioned the compatibility (or lack of) of 996.1 cats on 996.2 cars. I spent a little time searching just now, but couldn't find it. I'm hoping someone comes through with a pointer to easy, direct replacements, but if that falls through, I may hit you up.
Direct replacement for CA are these two (the last two rows) but I have not heard of anyone trying these yet.

If you don't mind some fab, the 997 ones should fit (needs some cutting or longer sleeves depending on which version. There are 2).
Thanks Ahsai. I'm pretty sure those are the DEC cats that you provided a link to. I actually ordered one a month or so ago, but when it arrived, it looked really puny, so I was worried about airflow and fit. I wound up sending it back. Really trying to stick near OEM fit and flow.
Honestly, Gert's method of replacing the cells is probably the best option for the money. I just wish it didn't require a week or more of downtime for the car.
I do like your thought that 997 cats may fit. If the amount of modification needed to get them installed is easy enough, I may widen my net and look for those too. Thanks for the idea.
Hey Martin,
Thanks for the head's up. I was able to score a set last week and even got them installed yesterday, so I'm all set for now.
Thanks again,
-Don
I've been searching for that as well and couldn't come up with anything definitive, anyone out there know the answer??
I jumped the gun and bought a set of 996.1 cats that I intended to send to Gert to have 200 cell cats fitted to install on my 996.2. I realize that actual cats must be sized to the engine displacement and the new 200 cells would be as such, I just don't know if the physical pipes and location of the mounts, o2 sensors etc would cause a problem on a 996.2
