Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I used a generic silver paint which matches very closely to the original color.

I decided to be a little lazy and I did the job without removing the whole unit (I left the bowden cables and electrical connector in place), which in retrospect is probably a mistake.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The release latches on my 996 looked pretty shabby: A quick search yielded this helpful thread from a few years ago - https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...e-latches.html I decided to be a little lazy and I did the job without removing the whole unit (I left the bowden cables and electrical connector in place), which in retrospect is probably a mistake. There's enough play to get to everything, but removing and putting back on the clips and springs is a royal pain. If I were going to do it again, I'd follow the directions exactly instead of trying to save time and energy. I did get to see some handwritten numbers inside: I used a generic silver paint which matches very closely to the original color. I'll probably create some stickers on clear labels to match the original handles, at some point. I'm quite pleased with the final result: I'm tempted to do my inside door handles next.

POST 4Original post

Nice work, certainly an improvement. Mine need to be repainted as well.
