Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So i litteraly have read alot of **** about using sport airfilters like KN etc. I dont wont my engine filled with ****. But I do want the extra sound a kit like this gives. Is there any PAPER airfilter on the marked that can be used with a kit like this (kone style etc)? Anyone have ideas/experiences? I have done some google searches but havent found much.

POST 2Original post

for every 10 '****' comments about air filter upgrades, there are another 1000 people running them that have no issues at all, and DONT post on a forum (about how great they are). My fabspeed air intake has no issues and sounds great!

POST 3Original post

I know my 99 mustang cobra had a conical paper air filter, but who knows if it would fit. If you're interested in this, you would need a serious amount of research. They also look pretty stupid. I'd probably just leave the intake alone.

The dry filter on many aftermarket systems still uses a cotton gauze derivative and not paper though. Paper elements would clog up too easily and couldn't be reused. One of the reasons why it's not readily used on aftermarket systems. I believe Green filters are dry systems as well but they do not have a specific system for the 996 IIRC. You could always get a universal cone though.

I was thinking more along the lines of this.

POST 8Original post

I have not literally read any sh*t. It's not a great writing surface. I have seen smears of poo in public restrooms - presumably, it was there as some kind of social commentary, but it was not in the form of letters, so again, no reading involved. I have gleaned information from it - for example, when I last ate corn - but as far as reading, nope.

POST 9Original post

I've been running a lay-in K&N for 2 years now with no problems. I have them in all 6 of my vehicles and had no problems for 10 years. The key is to not over-do the oil spray. On the 996 I let it rest on some news paper overnight to soak up any over spray before installing it.

POST 10Original post

If you're worried about over-oiling, you can also stuff some rags inside the filter and go over it with compressed air. I used this trick to deal with an over-oiled filter once before...

POST 11Original post

Just leave the filter out in the hot sun for a few hours to dry up all excess. Think I've read that tip on a bMC filter for a bike I used to have. I have stock filter on my though. At least for now.

POST 12Original post

Hmm, I don't know how that would work as oil generally doesn't evaporate.

POST 13Original post

Just do the orange cap mod and be done with it

It wouldn't, as it doesn't.
