I tired to provide as much info as possible but t the end nobody reached out to check the car in person or simply to ask specific information, this somehow validates my theory that back then (I am not sure if things have changed since August but it appears that the website grew a bit) the audience was mainly lookers with no cash or intent to buy.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just want to share with you the long to the page on my Carrera 4S Cabriolet for sale on a newish auction website, cars and bids. https://carsandbids.com/auctions/3Bw...a-4s-cabriolet this is a new thing to me and I am pretty pleased on how things went so far, from the day of my first enquiry to the first auction day it took less than three weeks. I did put in a request also to the other auction website, the process was similar but took them a while to get back to me. How many in this forum have experience with C&B or BAT? thank you, Z

POST 2Original post

I have a recent experience on one of those sites, but I'm going to take the high road and keep the details to myself. It ended with some animosity between me and the employees of the site. A valuable lesson I learned: I expected buyers to come with money, or financing lined up, on these sites. Turns out that's not the case, and it's apparently not the expectation of the auction sites either, and my experience involved no seller advocacy and pressure to wait for (and even assist) the buyer in obtaining financing. The details aren't important, other than to say I don't show up to an auction - virtual or in person - unless I've got the money in hand. That's not a shared reality, I learned. Also, I advise having an attorney look over the terms and conditions should things go squirrely. The same clauses that absolve them of any responsibility of the actual outcome of the transaction (they're all just connecting high bidders and sellers and exchanging contact information, remember) also don't give them much traction when pressuring you as a seller to wait around weeks for payment. I hope you have a positive experience. It wouldn't take much to make it a better experience than mine.

POST 3Original post

I've sold a car on BaT and have one coming up on C&B later this month.

POST 4Original post

Your car is nice, I'd consider it but it's going to be a while before it can come over the border I think...

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for the feedback, I will let you know how my experience will be. Regarding cross-border shipping, I am not really too concern, as there are many brokers that can facilitate the crossing.

POST 6Original post

I'll be watching your auction. I'm undecided where I want to market my FSI powered C2. I know I'm going to take a huge hit, but don't want to give it away either.

POST 7Original post

Let us know how it goes, interested in hearing how it compares to BaT.

POST 8Original post

following as well - have seen several Canadian cars underperform on BAT simply because people just don't realize how easy it is to import (or re-import) a vehicle. We have theorized that exporting the car first to a trusted seller in the states might result in higher numbers. GLWS to you - great looking local car.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I finally concluded the sale of my car and can provide my feedback.. the car went online in August and just yesterday was picked up by the transporter to head south to the new owner. To get the car to auction it was fairly simple, a quick online application, few rounds of edits and pictures and the car was ready to go. during the week that the car was auctioned I had the feeling by reading the comments that the site demographics was not as mature as BAT. most comments felt like were written by teenagers. I tired to provide as much info as possible but t the end nobody reached out to check the car in person or simply to ask specific information, this somehow validates my theory that back then (I am not sure if things have changed since August but it appears that the website grew a bit) the audience was mainly lookers with no cash or intent to buy. At the end the car sold, but I think it could have fetched more if the car was in the US. Being in Canada i think it scared few people off. I was lucky that the buyer was very professional and reliable and paid the car right away, but unfortunately we spent few months trying to get the car south the border. At first his intentions were to flying up and drive the car across the border, but as you know the border opening was delayed month after month. By october he finally realized that a transport company might be a safer bet. He went with TFX but the pickup was delayed few times until yesterday. So, if you are canadian and looking to sell your car on an auction website, I think BAT will bring you more money and possibly harassment from the peanut gallery , C&B is easier to get your car on but in august there was not much of a community to engage with. I hope this helps, cheers!

POST 10Original post

Glad it worked out. From the other side of the coin: I was seriously interested, did contact you (by text) but in the end opted not to deal with the potential import hassles. Being the car is only now on its way, I feel completely validated in choosing not to bid. So I would say it was not the platform as much as the circumstances, particularly the closed border. C&B has grown a lot in the last few months and I had a successful auction there of my own, and I think it's a great alternative to BaT especially when the later is 2-3 months backed up in listing cars.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like the sale went fairly smoothly considering the age of Cars and Bids and the fact you were dealing with trying to sell a car internationally during a pandemic. I've been considering putting my S3 up there, haven't had much luck on Facebook Marketplace when I've considered selling it.
