Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Also, I wonder where he gets the "3800 mile oil change interval" from.

The silicon was probably elevated because it was the first change since I had the pan dropped and resealed.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After my first oil change having used the magnetic oil plug. Very fine material caught on the end. No signs of flakes in oil and filter was clean. Total miles on car are 104k. This was a 5k change interval using 15w40. Switched to 15w50. Thoughts about the residue?
First mag plug since I've owned it as of November 2019. I was running motul 5w40 and motul 15w40 prior. A very reputable Indy mechanic in Norcal suggested switching to Mobil 1 15w50. He runs it in his Porsche and it is also listed in my owner's manual. I have a sample sent off to Blackstone but its taking forever to get there.
Some of this may have been floating around in the engine for a while and the mag plug finally caught it after it was installed.
Remember, UOA won't detect anything that is large enough to be seen with the naked eye.
Can't wait to see your Blackstone commentary.
Thanks for the update. I'm interested in hearing the conversation about it. I've done Blackstone for my Volvo XC60, but not the 911 yet.
Calcium looks high and Silicon is in bold face. Not sure if either of those is significant.
I wonder if Adam's comments would have been the same if he saw the photo of the magnetic drain plug? Also, I wonder where he gets the "3800 mile oil change interval" from.
I am Adam. The lab was addressing me at the top there. I could send them a pic of that plug, but Im not sure how they would be able to analyze? The silicon was probably elevated because it was the first change since I had the pan dropped and resealed.
Ahhhh - sorry. I thought the comments were coming from "Adam at the Lab"... my bad
As Jake commented earlier, those larger filings/shards wouldn't show up in the analysis anyway.
For sure, thank you. Im going to keeping an eye on it next change. Hoping like Jake mentioned, it could be debris thats been floating around for a while...
OP, stop using Mobil 1, it doesn't have the right ingredients.
Use Driven DT-40 5W-40. Flat six worked with Gibbs and that oil is formulated for our engines.
For normal street use don't go longer that 4K on the OCI.
Thanks for the info. I will seriously consider switching to the DT40 next oil change. JR sounds like he has done some serious research. Its worth a try.
