Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have used these wheels for years on my 996 as a cold weather setup.

We have tire and wheel forum here and I'm going to float the question there as what will really change with the 5 mm difference on the low end.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I found these and am talking with the seller. The only concern I have is the offset on the rears. 40mm? What would this mean and could it work?

Thx for your insight and opinions!
I read at
https://www.rimsntires.com/packages....ewMode=details
that the offset is between 45 mm and 55 mm. I'm guessing for both front and rear. These would need a 5 mm spacer and could work maybe?
I thought the 7 J x 17" was a stock size for the fronts.
The 996.362.124.00 is a stock rim for the 996 and has those dimensions.

Yes the wheels will fit.
Fronts are identical to 996 stock size.
The stock size for the 996 is 9" 55 offset.
These are 8.5" 40 offset.
This would give 21mm extra clearance inside and 9mm extension outward.
The problem is the tires are narrower than stock in the back and larger in diameter for both.
I have used these wheels for years on my 996 as a cold weather setup. No spacers, fit great, look great. I run stock 996, 17" size tires. If you want (and remind me) I will try to grab some photos this weekend (I just installed them for the upcoming season).
OP - The 996 twists you ref are same diameter, but these Cayman wheels have 8.5 rears, not 9. The Cayman wheels with those tires fit fine. But, I ask why would you need these if you drive around Nashville? I attached visuals for your comparison.
That's a cool website for determining tire size changes. Very good visuals on the differences. Thank you for that!
Great question. I see you are in Mt. Juliet. I've got summer tires on the car now and even a few times so far this fall it's been cold enough that they get thumpy. Been reading, and watching, that summer tires below 40 degrees get hard and much below that they can be damaged if you drive on them. I'm looking for something that looks good and will allow me to drive the car without tire concerns over the winter. As you know, it's not unusual to get single digits here.
What do you do for winter tires?
I was wondering the same thing. Picked up a like new set of Cayman wheels with winter tires for my 996. Thought I would have to get spacers, but looks like they are good to go
the recommended offset for the 996 is 45 to 55. The Cayman wheels are 40. Just under the recommended.
We have tire and wheel forum here and I'm going to float the question there as what will really change with the 5 mm difference on the low end. Wondering if I need spacers as well. It's something I don't know much about, but am going to learn.
If you find something out please post it here!
Last time I did the math a standard set of cayman wheels 8 front 9 rear with 57 and 43 offsets respectively. Typical 996 is 8 front and 10 rear with 52 and 65 offset respectively.
The fronts will be inset 5mm; the rears will stick out 10mm more. Both are pretty writhin spec from most peoples perspective.
