Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I need to purchase new bolts and nuts, my porsche dealer is charging me 5,11 a piece and 7,66, thats like 76$!!! ishh what are the size of the bolt and nut so i can purchase them somewhere else little urgent thanks a lot!!!

POST 2Original post

Go to the hardware store and buy some stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers. They are 8mm, 35mm in length.

POST 3Original post

Cat to exhaust manifold flange is comprised of studs (M8). Are they going to drill out the studs so you can use hex head bolts ?

POST 4Original post

On my 2000 the cat flange does have pressed in studs, I had to drill them out, only did one side. A real PITA. However the PET does show bolts and nuts so at some time they may have changed this. Not sure when or why.

You should not need to to drill them out, once the headers are off, you can just hit them with a big hammer to knock them out. I snapped 3 of the 6 and all got replaced by SS. Rick 99 996C4 87 944S

POST 7Original post

I tried that....not so much luck I'm afraid. and it was a big hammer

POST 8Original post

One tip a mate gave me was to cut them flush on the side where the threads were ie the side where the gasket would sit, then drill a pilot hole part way into each stud to relieve a bit of pressure so that they can be tapped out. I might have a crack at doing it that way on the weekend since I have mine to do.

POST 9Original post

I drilled & hammered out the cat studs yesterday. I experimented a bit and found they were a lot easier to knock out once they were drilled about 80-90% through as per the attached pic. Other pics/details are on my 996 web.
