Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've driven a few 996s prior to owning mine, but not much mileage or time under my belt. When I put mine into reverse, it goes all the way into gear, but the shifter feels like it makes contact when the internal edge of the shifter console when you pull it all the way left before moving it up into reverse. Is this normal? Or signs of an out-of-alignment shifter? Btw, it's a manual transmission (duh) and no known shifter modifications.

POST 2Original post

Not normal for sure. It needs a re alignment or some bushing is worn beyond adjustment. Once yoi remove the center console and study how the linkage works, it should be obvious.

POST 3Original post

Shifter cables can allso be worn out. My shifter felt very loose just before one of the cables broke. Check allso the transmission connections.

POST 4Original post
