Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Run like a top' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run like a top' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. I know these cars were severe weather tested when developed but wanted to hear any thoughts from those that have owned and driven 996 longer and in similar conditions.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
I'm planning a trip from Edmonton to Vancouver next week which just so happens to coincide with plummeting temps. -30 to -20 when I get into BC. Car is in good order fresh 0 weight oil brand new winter tires. I've done this trip many times before but rarely in theses temps. -31 for a few hours Was the coldest a few years back in my M3. My car is in an insulated garage so should be just below 0 Celsius when I start the car, I'll let idle drop then baby it until water temp is normal then baby some more until oil temp is up by looking at oil pressure gauge as a guide. My thinking is once car is up to temp it should be fine. I travel with some emergency supplies, sleeping bag boots etc.

Use VRBO/Air B&B,, select places with a garage.. Condo's are the best ones, the garages are often heated.
Carry a small 1200 watt heater along and it goes on the floor blowing under the car..
^^^ When I drove a air-cooled bug this made uber cold travel much more bareable.
i have a 2002 C4S, and daily it in Calgary and have so for 7 yrs so far with no issues, including on those blistery January days like we have this week, and longer highway trips (im at 170k km now)
ensure good quality oil and dont push it till its properly warmed up is key, as long as the car is loved and attended to there should be no issues, they're really such great cars...shh dont tell anyone how awesome they are, then everyone will know what theyre missing out on
Had a great drive and made it to Vancouver in 13 hours the first four hours had outside temps between -36 & -40 Celsius. Warmed to -25 over the Coquahala. Wrapping up with snow star heading into Hope and Chilliwack.
car ran like a top. One I gingerly got to temp it didn't fluctuate. Some strange spring noises from BC coilovers up front but at those temperatures seems acceptable.
