My 2 cents: the same process you used to decide that the price you paid for it 5 years ago was "fair" can also be used for setting a selling price now (adjusted for depreciation/mileage/mods, etc.)
Leading evidence: 'Adjust depreciation/mileage/mods, etc.)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'cobbled parts' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust depreciation/mileage/mods, etc.)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The lowest I've seen is for $24k just last year with a clean title BUT it was being sold by LA Dismantlers with I suspect cobbled parts from several cars.

just picked up my '02 for $32k...straight clean, full records, 85k miles...that's no myth.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2004 996 C4S Cabriolet
28,800 miles
Seal Gray / Black
6 speed manual
ECU tuned
Fabspeed bypass pipes - have original S exhaust as well.
Original turbo s wheels - black chromed - they look good.
Clutch replaced 1000 miles ago - or so. have to look.
RMS replaced same time as clutch
I've owned the car for almost 5 years. bought it with 18,000 miles on it and have driven it on weekends, nice weather. I think it's actually been rained on 2 times, maybe 3. Live in Dallas area so no salt, bad weather has ever touched this car (at least from my time with it).
What would a fair listing price be for my car? 42,000? I've looked at ebay and cars.com and it's hard to find something similar to compare to.
Thanks,
Tom
What is your location? Are you in a rush to sell?

Good luck selling.
Sounds like a great car.
My .02? Install the LN or similar bearing before listing the car for sale. Otherwise, be prepared to get low-balled and/or have scared buyers ask and then bolt. As a low mileage car it is more at risk for failure.
With that taken care of - and a nice car with low miles - you may get close to that asking price. But you are approaching decent 997 territory. You also have to find a buyer who has the cash or can get financing on a 10 year old car. If you want to sell, you may want to do that quickly as loans are harder to find when the car is over 10.

Sounds like a nice car. 4s's are selling well now. Prices seem to have a broad range. Low $40's is on the high side of what I've seen, but yours is a unique example. You might get your price if you have time and patience.
Not to be a Debbie downer, I paid $35k for my 04 4s cab 2 months ago. All records, 32k miles, rms done not ims. MSRP was about $105k. They guy was going through a divorce.
Good luck.
For comparison, I know of an '03 C4S coupe with 8000 miles in the $35 to $40k range. My analysis shows at that mileage, he should be around $43k. This is the lowest mileage C4S I know of for sale.
PM me if you want the graphs.

04 C4S Cab in Texas with good history... $37-39K
Like one of the guys mentioned, you will get every internet hack that does web research asking if the IMSB is done, so get it done and list it for $41900.. then come down to $39
If your in need of a shop to get that done, send me a PM. You'll need to come to San Antonio, but its worth it.
Just bought my 996 in Texas, two things I noticed were prices are low here and still nobody is buying. I looked for almost a month before I came across the one I was looking for. Some one on here already pointed out that it's hard to get a loan on a 10+ year old car and prices are low for good examples. Your gonna have to lower your price or wait for that one buyer to come along.
I appreciate the input and advice. I'm not in any hurry as it's my 2nd car and comes out in top-down weather only.
I'll look into getting the bearing done.
you are $10k high BiteEm. 996 TT's can be had in low $30's... or even high $20's if you can live with 100K+ miles.

I've yet to see one of these mythical 996 Turbos in the high-20s/low-30s that people say are out there. There's currently one for sale in Seattle for $28k, but it has 120k miles and a rebuilt title.
The lowest I've seen is for $24k just last year with a clean title BUT it was being sold by LA Dismantlers with I suspect cobbled parts from several cars. This is a big but probable and maybe unfair suspicion on my part.
There's a hideous TT with Orange black accents. It was on ebay just a week or so ago. Not sure if it's still there. I think that one was high 20's or low 30's.
Most of the other high mileage examples I've seen(80k+) would avg in the mid 30's.
The really cheap ones get scooped up and the ads taken down before most can see it and the reason why people don't generally come across these.
This might help - Porsche Dealer listing an 04 C4S Cab with only 16k miles for $48,000. Miles are excellent but the car doesn't seem very highly optioned. I didn't see any mention of IMS in the listing.

There are some unbelievable deals out there but a lot of them have bad histories.
just picked up my '02 for $32k...straight clean, full records, 85k miles...that's no myth. Saw a speed yellow TT sell on eBay last week for around $26k, had 140k miles on chassis tiptronic and a rebuilt motor along the way. New owner will have to dump a few thou into it to make it nice...but that's ok.
2002 Turbo - Basalt Black Metallic / 2003 Carrera 4S - Speed Yellow / 1955 356 Continental 1500 - Rust Red
I was high bidder on that speed yellow 2001 turbo until the last 5 minutes of the auction at $24,352. It ended up selling for $25,600. I corresponded with the seller quite a bit, but didn't do a PPI on the car (I would have had I won the auction to verify the condition). Seller had to relist it from the previous auction that ended at $24,500 (high bidder ended up being non-responsive after the auction end, but sellers were willing to do the deal at $24,500). Seller had owned the car for over 8 years and put 80,000 miles on it since 2006, which included rebuilding the engine at dealer 65,000 miles ago. Car had some really cool options - GT3 seats, factory roll cage. It wasn't perfect, but hardly a basket case.
