Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone know what the stock 3.4 and 3.4 X51 Camshaft specs are? Trying to compare these three: stock 3.4 cams ?? x51 3.4 ?? schrick 3.4 280 in. and 272 exh

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11406169

you my friend are incorrect 996-100-951-01 <-- part number for the 3.4l X51 engine. here is a picture of the 3.4l x51 unicorn as well, although the 3.4 and 3.6 are not really distinguishable from each other this is a 3.4l x51 that EBS had for sale a few years ago

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 11407035

You are absolutely correct and I learned something new. Just in doing a quick research on the part, it was mainly available in Europe and to only race teams for the US. Have you been even able to determine current availability here? It seems like it may be hard to get even if you wanted one. Some of the difficulties in using it might be getting the right euro tune ecu along with addressing the x51 having only one cam sensor vs the two cam censors found on US cars. For the hp, additional valve train components, tuning, installation, not to mention overall drive ability, would this be even worth it to you? Personally I don't see too many guys going this route. Thanks for pointing out the unicorn though.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was more so just curious on it's specs to compare to factory and the schrick cams. I'm most likely going the route of getting factory cams weld/grinds

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 11408326

Gotcha, that thought came to my mind after my last post. Just playing devil's advocate, the x51 cams are designed to work with the specific tune and different heads/intake. Would it be worth all the trouble for custom regrinds, then tuning, and then you're still taking a chance on increased valve train wear and unknown hp? If you prefer to stay the NA route, it might be faster and less riskier to go with something like the FVD kit which has been extensively r&d'd already and basically guarantees their power claims or your money back. I wish more companies stood behind their performance products like this. http://www.fvd.de/us/en/Porsche-0/-/...LBF-FT%29.html

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

for a NA route I would probably just go with schrick cams which are part of the FVD kit, it would definitely take the guess work out of things. my 3.4l engine is currently being taken out to a 3.8l by utilizing increased bore and stroke. I am using the 3.6 factory crank, and crank carrier and 3.6 pauter rods and a custom set of 99mm piston with to match the valve cuts from the 3.4 heads. Along with this we will be using a gt4094r single turbo so there goes for the NA route.

POST 8Original post

I have some specs what specifically are you looking for?

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 11409278

Well that changes things quite a bit. So let me get this straight, 3.8 turbo built motor and you're still thinking of doing cams too?

POST 10Original post

Wouldn't the valve covers easily show if it's a 3.4 or a 3.6?

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If that's a question, well then the answer is yes.. LOL My motor was a 3.4l, then I took it from the a 96mm bore out to 99mm turn used a 3.6 crank and crank carrier. It becomes a 3.8l it's still a m96 block. Imo000- yes the 3.4 and 3.6 heads are different but I don't think there was a question figuring out how to tell them apart unless I missed something

I hope this works for you aince the C/L moves form 120/100 I just set the cams to 100/106 for your comparison the X51 is a 2011 cam and the 996 is a 2010 these cover all models and ranges. reagards C:\Program Files (x86)\AudieTech\CPP\X51int.CPP LIFT DUR. POST 16Original post

It is important to determine what left the figures are taken at, if you can unscramble the info I gave you I start at .006 then .020,.040,.050. So looking at my mess .006 is more duration and .020 is less also I use the radius tappet and Schrick may use a flat so it would be hard to tell with out that information. The X51 cam is the first set of data above and it depends what you are looking for all I can say is if I had to pick a Cam Schrick would be my first choice but all being equal non of these cams is a street strip competition type cam they would be a emissions cam that has a little more duration. regards
