I checked the AOS condition with a manometer about 5k miles ago and it gave an appropriate pressure, plus no smoke here.

Suggestion

Running well at speed and stalling at idle is classic vacuum leak symptom, so i would be going at that before changing any parts.

Suggestion · Original poster

Usually that presents by not starting for you without giving it a bump before it fails completely, shouldn't present running issues until it doesn't run at all.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

2002 C2. I had been driving around and was driving home. Made a turn in the neighborhood, upshifted to 2nd and it bogged, bogged enough that I thought I had gone into 4th by mistake but wasn't. Downshifted to 1st figuring I would limp the last bit home given no odd noises or smokes, and noted there that below 2500rpm the engine bogged and surged. Parked in my driveway and after a couple of seconds the idle started surging. I shut it off, turned it back on, problem solved. Any ideas? I have a durametric but I don't think there will be any codes. I checked the AOS condition with a manometer about 5k miles ago and it gave an appropriate pressure, plus no smoke here. The Loss Adaption at Idle is around 1.2%, but I don't have a frame of reference. And I confirmed there is no code.

POST 2Original post

Fuel pump on it's way out? Been a few reports lately.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't think so. Usually that presents by not starting for you without giving it a bump before it fails completely, shouldn't present running issues until it doesn't run at all. Given that it was only surging in the lower rpm range, I wonder if there is a sensor for the variocam that can fail.

POST 4Original post

Running well at speed and stalling at idle is classic vacuum leak symptom, so i would be going at that before changing any parts. The heat can open up a leak that will not show when cold. Simple test is vacuum gauge, if that is showing lower than expected at hot idle then smoke test

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't think there's a leak. I didn't give it any time between the shut down and start up, I just shut it off and immediately restarted and it was fine. Also it hasn't done it again since. It had done it once before though, months earlier. I think it's electrical, but I don't know how what electrical parts are involved.
