Customers would complain of vibration all the time after test driving a new car that had been siting for more than a month..Balancing a flat spotted tire will not cure the problem...lol only driving it will...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As my car awaits it's 3.8L rebuild, it is just sitting in one place. It's been about 2 months now and will likely be another 4-8 weeks before it's up and running. Do I need to worry about the tires getting flat spots, or is that more applicable to old-style belted tires and a much longer time frame measured in years, not months? Should I roll it around a bit or jack it up and rotate the wheel 180 degrees? I'm running Yokohama Neova A008 R tires. Thanks

POST 3Original post

Non issue. My car sits all winter on the tires with no issue. Over inflating is an option but not needed for that short of a time frame

POST 4Original post

Unless you are running bias ply tires, any flat spots should work themselves out as soon as the tire comes up to operating temp. I store multiple cars for months with no prep. Never any issue.

POST 5Original post

I clicked this thread because I thought you meant the F1 type of flat-spotting and my eyebrows raised. You'll be fine!

Simplest solution tires will lose air anyway. Rolls Royce & Bentlys owners manual states to do this if car will sit for more than a week.

POST 7Original post

New Porsche's are delivered from the factory with tires overpressured to 55psi to keep from flat spotting on the long travel from Germany. During PDI the tires pressure are adjusted to normal settings before handing over to customer, but some dealers prefer to do PDI as soon as the cars are unloaded at the dealer whether sold or not, Then they sit for months at a time and will flat spot after a month or so. Driving the car above 75 for a period of time will smooth out the flat spots. Customers would complain of vibration all the time after test driving a new car that had been siting for more than a month..Balancing a flat spotted tire will not cure the problem...lol only driving it will...

POST 8Original post

It also seems, from my experience, to depend a lot on the specific tire brand/model. I’ve never had flat spot issues with my 996, even stored for the entire winter, but my little Miata track car, sitting on Firestone Indy500s will flat spot in a couple of weeks. It’s a much lighter car, but also much lower tire pressures.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone. Seems like it's best to pump them up a bit and then get her up to 75 as I'm breaking in the engine! ;-)
