Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have fault code 45,46,48 which seems to be the belt buckles. Someone told me to spray electroni c contact solution into the belt buckles but then someone else said there's a risk of "melting" them. Anyone have any thoughts?

POST 2Original post

First spray some WD-40 in the buckle slots. Contact solutions (electrical) can sometimes discolor the plastic on the buckles. Be very careful using those.

Is WD40 safe for the electronics and etc in there?

POST 4Original post

Yes, just a little bit. Fixed my seat belt buckle error and it hasn't come back in 2 years.

POST 5Original post

Depending on the year, there's a bunch of TSBs about the buckles. Depending on the year, there's a wiring harness upgrade and I think they've updated the buckles. I had the 45 code. Replaced the buckle and it went away. I'd try the spray approach (I didn't try that) first, then replace the buckle if it doesn't clear. Harness kit looked a bit ugly, fortunately I didn't have to go there.

How did you clear the idiot light on the console?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's a 1999. Going to try the WD40 spray into the buckles today.

POST 9Original post

Mine is a '99 as well. 99680318309 for about $140 on the driver's side. I only had the code 45 though.

POST 11Original post

I also successfully used the CRC QD electrical contact cleaner spray, followed by clearing the fault code with a Durametric. Airbag fault light (buckle code) went away and hasn't come back in 5+ years.
