Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Had already decided to shorten change interval to 3k miles before putting the car into DD conditions.

My commute already costs $40/day for gas/tolls/parking so a monthly oil change isn't gonna break me.

Plan on doing oil changes monthly which should be about 3k mile intervals.

FWIW my Indy says change the oil in garage queens more often than ones that aren't driven
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Finally getting back to work after 5 months away (2 months working from home due to Covid closure of workplace/3 months caring for ill spouse) and I've decided to ditch mass transit and drive the 130 miles RT daily. My 2003 4s is a former garage queen, only seeing 8k miles in the 11 years prior to my purchase almost 18 months ago. But in those nearly 18 months i've put on 19k miles. Car runs perfectly and my new daily drive is 100% freeway at high speed the entire trip. Plan on doing oil changes monthly which should be about 3k mile intervals. Eventually my 997.2 4s FSI Stage II will become my DD but for now the 996 will get all the miles.
My current oil change regime is 6 months or 5k whichever comes first and past UOA have shown poor oxidation values, even after switching away from Mobil1. Had already decided to shorten change interval to 3k miles before putting the car into DD conditions. My commute already costs $40/day for gas/tolls/parking so a monthly oil change isn't gonna break me.
Who said these cars are delicate? Just need to care for them. Let the data do the talking. Nice work!
I only go into the office 2 or 3 times a week now. Traffic used to be 1:15 for 35 miles. I never took the 996. Now it's 35 minutes, the 996 is all I drive. Poor old Prius.
Roads in Los Angeles are scary and yet I can't wait to drive our 911 on a daily 45 mile round trip. It's nimble when surrounded by aggressive drivers and big trucks, like an arrow when the road is clear, and always puts a smile on face.
Three freeways converging and giant truck tailgating.
.
If you are enjoying the car and commute, more power to you!
I've never enjoyed daily driving my fun cars. I have always had a daily beater. And when I say beater, I mean the true meaning of the word. A car just to get me from Point A to Point B. It's a 1997 Honda Accord wagon manual trans. I made it more fun to drive and most people don't realize how well it handles. lol I don't enjoy sitting in traffic or hitting potholes in my fun cars either.
Daily driving a beater makes driving the fun cars even more enjoyable to me. Plus, I don't feel as bad taking my cars to the track and feeling less guilty driving them hard. Got a track event tomorrow in fact!
With that said, I always say anyone who enjoys cars and driving should try to do it as much as possible, no matter what that entails.
Thanks for asking. My wife went through a year of hell and is slowly regaining her strength. No current cure for this type cancer but it is treatable with a stem cell transplant, which is an amazing process in itself. Hers went extremely well, so now we wait for its eventual return, live for the now, and hope medical technology continues to advance rapidly.
If all goes well someday soon ill be in my 996 following her driving the 997 PDK with Jakes beast of an engine at her command.
FWIW my Indy says change the oil in garage queens more often than ones that aren't driven
"Well there's only 1000 miles on the oil!"
Yea but you started it every other day for 5 months during the winter, the oil is now fuel soaked and caustic.
Easy insurance for like 200 bucks !
Bummer that your wife is sick, hopefully she has good luck with her treatments and they make it manageable. My wife found out shes at extremely high risk for breast cancer, so much so they recommend surgery to just remove the tissue now rather than wait for cancer. That being said, can't imagine driving 130 miles a day. I commuted from Northern MD to PA a few times a week but generally would just stay here and be gone for a few days at a time. That was 170 mile round trip, I would have quit before I did that every day lol. At least you have a great car to do it in.
My 65 mile one way journey includes 50 miles on the NJ Turnpike which moves at 90-100mph for mile after mile now that covid has reduced traffic tremendously. Inevitably some youngster in a bmw gets on my tail and we have some fun.
if your drives are long and highway I think changing so often is overkill. Stick to 7k miles or every year (or half year)
I would even dare to state that a UOA in this case will show you that with such a regular long commute regime the Porsche prescribed interval will even be fine.
