Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 996 battery was out and I had a friend bring his jump start cables and unfortunately i let him plug it... He plugged them the wrong way, as soon as i saw some smoke, i removed the cables and switched them correctly. My problem now is, the rear break light and the third break light are not working. The stereo also has no power but that's not bothering me as much as the breaks. I checked the fuse and bulbs and they're not burnt. Any suggestions on what to do?? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

You’re not the first, and won’t be the last. I haven’t experienced this, but do know there are several threads around about putting battery in backwards.

POST 3Original post

I am assuming since your concern is with your BRAKE lights, you got the car running? You should have used the jump points in the engine bay. Very hard to mess up those connections. However and back to the issue, you need to check all of the fuses....every last one. The stereo probably has a fuse on the back side of the unit. You will also need to check the brake pedal switch for 12V. Got a bit of work ahead of you.

Hey Joe, its his break light if its not working, no?

POST 5Original post

I dunno...if his brake light breaks then it is broken
