Obviously I checked oil filters for residue and all that, but I also do that on the jeep.

I'm interested in factory installed aero kits including the turbo aerokit on a 4S.

count on replacing all bushings, water pump and thermostat, no matter mileage, it is a 13 years old German car FFS, just do it (cheap if you do it yourself, not so much if someone else does it)

As I said, added during or after production makes no difference.
It was a must for me to get a 996 with an aero kit and fortunately I found mine quick, I only waited like 3 months. I have a buddy who is looking for a red 996 with factory aero and he is having a hard time...
Sometimes I help him look on sites and to be honest for every 15 996's I see, only one or maybe two have them.
When i was looking for my car it took me almost 6 months as i was specifically looking for a mkII in speed yellow with the aero. So yeah i believe factory aero's are pretty rare specially if you are looking for a specific color.
When I was looking, I would say only 15% were only available at the time. And most of the 15% were '99 models. I don't know how many they made and shipped to the US. Would be nice if someone knew that info. I ended up getting a regular version and painfully assembled and pieced together my own OEM aero kit fortunuately or unfortunately.
I see plenty of 996's (in SoCal, Porsches are everywhere) - but only a few aero. My kit is OEM, added by the previous owner. If you parked an aero and a non-aero side-by-side, most folks would probably think they were different models entirely.
to make sure aero kit is factory (and not AM), look for
code XAA
P.S. FWIW, mine is full aero by Techart (front lip, side skirts, rear winglets and rear spoiler) and grateful that I did NOT have to pay for it
I have a XAA factory red car, it also has hard back sports seats in red and a carbon fiber center console. It has 74,xxx, will sell for the right price if he is interested. PM me for additional details. New suspension, bilstein coil overs H&R sports shocks, TRG sway bar, etc, etc.
Don't want to sell as I only have had her for a bit over a month, but if the offer is strong enough I may consider.
What is is price range and mileage requirements?
Porsche-t, DON'T DO IT!!! Your car is absolutely stunning. The white/black combo really works on the MK1-aero. I am obviously biased, but I have seen very few white aeros over the years. You would be hard pressed to find any car that looked nicer than the one you have.
Totally agree. Of my 4 Porsches my favorite is my 996 Aero. However, the only thing that gets me more envious is Porsche-t's white aero. Probably the best looking car I have seen in a long time. The Mk1 headlights are perfect with the aero.
I am not sure what his budget is but I know he was very interested in a red one that was recently being sold here for 19k and it had around 80k miles if I recall correctly. If you guys are interested in selling, send me some pictures, mileage, details & price to
[email removed]
, I will foward this to him.
thanks!
I know of a Red one that someone here at work was looking to sell about a month ago with only 30,000 miles. Let me see if I can find his email and I will try to connect you guys if it is still available.
Porsche-t your car is really nice and tastefully done. Id be interested in discussing more details with you, I am Neto's friend. I can be reached at

I was looking for months ,(6) for a white 996 , and settled for a Arctic silver Aero C4 2001, but really wanted a white one , almost none for sale. Mostly silver and black. The Aero looks better on the 996 IMO. Looks more tough !! (:
At the risk of being labeled a showoff, here's my aero 996.1 w/ MKII wing. With the newer wing and some mods (console delete, rear seat delete, ...), it's becoming a GT3 doppelgnger.
This is hands-down the most beautiful car I've ever owned, and the aero makes it different from 95% of other 911's. There are tons of 911's in SoCal, but the aeros are a lot less common.
It may be 15 years old, and it may make less than 300HP, but between the looks and the noise (Tubi cans), the boy racers just assume they'll be humiliated and don't even try.
Great thread! Always preferred the Mk 1 aero look. That white aero is beautiful! Here are a few shots of my '99 factory aero in Violia Metallic. About as close to a unicorn as you'll find. JR

Since I've gotten quite a few email about the car, rather than replying to emails, I went ahead to take a bunch of pictures to show what the car looks like.
Yes the car is for sale as my current life style no longer requires (deserves ) 911.
I am located in Seattle, and if you are a serious buyer please feel free to contact me for unanswered questions here.
Thank you.
Out of all fairness to Red1999996, he was doing me a favor since I have been the go between guy with PMs and email intros to get people connected...He was just trying to get rid of the middle man and save me some time. But your point is well taken.
How about
this one
? No records available and came from Texas. Carfax shows it started out in Florida and was sold CPO in 2004 about one year after is was first titled. Has anyone here looked at this one already by chance?
I agree that while looking that I saw maybe 1 Aero kit car for every 20-25 non Aero cars. It seems like the vast majority of 996s for sale are cabs too.
I would say they're not rare enough to increase the value very much. It's certainly not a unicorn, but from my experience, finding an Aero car at a good price, in good shape, with the mileage you want, and with the options you want will be a bit of a search and almost definitely won't be local.
(When I say "you" that's a generic you. It's not specific to the things "you" want, but any buyer.)
Its easier to buy a 996 then buy the parts of the aero kit from second hand use. Such as a crashed gt3 or someone selling them on Craigslist. May take longer, but pretty much bolt on and doesn't take too long either to swap the parts.
I looked for a year for a 996 with no options
6 sod , orange. I wanted a light car. I feel that
Many Porsches are becoming too heavy
and too luxurious .
I I were going for optional body work, I'd only
Want (Factory).
Good luck
not easy to find the mk1 aero bumper in pristine condition (996-505-980-02-G2X-OEM) in the same color as your car. so i'd recommend you'd pay a bit more for that factory option rather than going after market. the fiberglass front bumpers are not as flexible as oem. enjoy the search.
I waited for an OEM taco to pop up. It was a piece of cake to swap out. They do come up on the forums a few times a year. Now I am on the hunt for OEM front bumper.
I have always liked MKI aero 996s. Definitely sets them apart from the regular 996s.
Question, has anyone ever put a MKI aero kit on a C4S with its wider hips? For some reason I think it would be a perfect fit.
Cheers,
I just bought it, my first porker. I checked it over really closely and it is a pretty honest 2003 57k car. I will post pix once I have had a bit more time with it.
Congrats kon5t! We spent some time looking at it and talking to Dick about the car, but in the end, decided to keep looking. Looking forward to hearing more about it!
Oh man I haven't slept in a week, I wasn't going to buy a car, but then I saw this. I have walked past Dick's for 3 years and never seen anything I had to have, until this. I was supposed to pick it up this morning but the AOS didn't arrive in time, so I have one more evening without (sleep) car.
But that is just giving me more time to get infatuated with a new forum, full of new people :-)
I think the 996 looks a little too smooth with out the aero kit. The kit gives just enough aggressive lines to the overall look of the car.
So, yes I wanted a 996 with an aero kit. AND, I did not want it in red, silver, or black. My 2000 is a Ocean Metallic Blue. I'm told that was a one year only color option. (please correct me if you have other info.) I love the way light reflects off it.
Not rare, but there are a crapload of non-aero 996's. I love the aero. Plain-jane 996's are still awesome cars, but the aero looks the part of "childhood dream fulfilled."
Non-aero: I'm a successful guy with an awesome car.
Aero: In my head, I'm a superhero.
Thanks for pointing that out, I am going to be doing a few maintenance things to it, there are a few points I have noticed that need some tlc. I got a good price on the car, it is 12 years old with nearly 60k and I expect some things to need doing.
I'm still considering a MKII aero 996. I'm interested in factory installed aero kits including the turbo aerokit on a 4S. I too want to be a superhero.
I got a thumbs-up driving a buddy's 914 in to work today - but in my MK1 996 w/ MKII wing, people have literally stopped their cars in the street to tell me how much they like my 911. One of my favorite "nice car" stories was a guy who thanked me for having "a man's Porsche."
It also attracts a fair number of old dudes who invariably launch into the "I had an old 911back in ____...sure wish I hadn't sold it..." story.
KCattorney - You should come to the KCRPCA breakfast. Every (yes every) Saturday @ 7:00 we meet for breakfast at Le Peeps, approx 79th and Quivira. We usually have about 20 to 25 people show up. We chat for a while then head in for Breakfast by 7:30... or a little earlier if it is cold. :-)
I may make it this week. It's on my priority list. By the way, a little known Kansas City Auto Museum policy - anybody driving a 996 to the museum gets free admission. The are three 996s owned among the 8 board members.
I'll chime in... I've had my 996 Aero for about a month, and I love it. Although I haven't had a single person comment on it, or give me a thumbs up, or anything...
I think he means on the street, in person. We Rennlisters slobbered all over Sailor's car. He almost backed out of buying it a couple of times, but we talked him back down off the ledge. It is a really unique car - love those color-matching wheels.
It's all relative. I don't see too many avg folks going goo goo ga ga over any gold looking car.
This is one of those specialty car colors that generally do not appeal to the masses.
I just added mine to my signature. I have gotten called out once or twice for having a MKII wing - you know, because that's evil and wrong in the eyes of a
true
porschephile. While I truly enjoy the camaraderie both here and from PCA members, some people get hung up about ridiculous crap.
My car is even cooler than any of the models I had as a kid. I'm pretty sure I'd get a high-five from 10-year-old me if he saw the car he wound up driving.

MBASailor, your car is absolutely stunning. I love the unique color. Those wheels, painted body color, look fantastic. I would give your car two thumbs up! Kudos to you for picking a car that stands out from the crowd.
I bought this used 2006 from a friend totally stock. Added Porsche OEM Aero and a few other items over the years. Since replacing the engine in 2009 with Factory New (when they were only $8200) it has been a joy to drive and race!
Will they not line up because the bumper-side of the duct is wrong, or the radiator side is different on wide bodies?
And do the rear spoilers not work? They look to be a drop-in replacement, not a whole engine lid.
Aero spoilers comprises of the entire lid.
As for the ducts, not sure as you would need to see them side by side but they do have different part numbers so they are indeed different.
Why this fascination? I do have to say it is somewhat rare fetish.
Just curiosity. I've always like the Aero kits and I've always liked the wide bodies. But I'm not particularly fond of "bare" narrow bodies nor the wide body aero kit.
I'm convinced that the MkI Aero will become an appreciated car in a few years.
What are everyone's thoughts on Porsche aero kits installed after the car was manufactured? I'm hesitant to buy a non-XAA car with the kit installed as I think it will delay the car's value in years to come. Thoughts?
Go for the XAA car if you can. If the aero parts are put in after just make sure it is OEM parts, especially the taco. Also make sure they did the front bumper cover. My car is not XAA, but OEM parts. I did not do it for the appreciation, but because they make the MK1 look 100% hotter.
Well, good record keeping is important for anything like this, but the OEM parts generally look different to the aftermarket copies. I'm yet to see a copy that looks anything like the real thing. I have records for every thing that has been done to my car, along with photographs of major work.
Related, but not. The other fly in the ointment is that the options lists on the cars are notoriously unreliable - I learned this when I asked my Porsche dealer (shortly after I bought the car) why the options list sticker on the trunk didn't match the options on the car. Once Porsche screws up there's no way to get it corrected.
The usual giveaways on the spoiler as to whether it's OEM or a copy are as follows:
1) Porsche markings and stickers
2) The air vent design
3) Fit, finish and quality (particularly on the inside where you can see if the fiberglass is smooth and well finished)
Well it's definitely a Porsche aero kit, but not an XAA car. His price was already steep and definitely not worth it for me since the kit was added after production.
As I said, added during or after production makes no difference. If you don't like the price, that's a different matter, but excluding a car based on when the aero was added will just exclude a lot of good cars and make your search more frustrating and tortuous.
Well, your call.
I'm biased, but I feel that the 996 Aero is the best looking of the 996s. Every year I ask myself the question as to whether it's time to trade in for something newer and each time I come to the conclusion that I would just spend a lot of money for little gain and something less unique... there are not too many aero cars out there, so it's nice to have one that stands out from the crowd.
Yup. Eventually you'll find the right car for you.
My car was the second one that I looked at.
From the owner perspective I'm happy to see that my car now seems to be fully depreciated, as the $23-25K range is where I've seen Aeros selling for the last 3 or so years, so every mile I now put onto my car is free.
So what is a reasonable price range, give or take a couple grand, for a 2003 factory aero? Say, between 40k and 50k miles with no other remarkable or expensive options? No records, clean car fax and which appears to be well cared for.
I have made an offer on a particular 2003 including a deposit contingent on an acceptable PPI. I was not countered, just a response that we were too far apart. The PPI was already discussed and is not an issue.
Thanks,
JrDavid68
It most certainly will. It's a direct fit and will take less than 10 minutes to install. With that being said, I wouldn't even think about adding one to an MK2 car. From an aesthetic perspective the taco wing has unique curves and will look completely ridiculous unless you have the MK1 aero kit front bumper and side skirts to balance things out. Also the MK1 aero kit was designed to be used as a "complete" kit (complete meaning all of the MK1 aero kit pieces). If you install just the wing without the proper front aerodynamics the car will drive like s**t at speed (front end unstable, wobbling, etc.).
Although I have not been looking at Targas, this one looks nice. Not a factory aero kit and priced a bit high. Still a nice looking car:
2003 Targa on Cars.com
Still loving it, but after 7kM in 5 months and my ears ringing (Huntington Beach to San Bernadino), I had to buy a jeep for the daily commute (purchased in Nov 14 at 58k, now at 65~).
The porker was also a bit **** getting up the mountain to the shooting areas in Perris
.
saying that, it is a great car and it is the pivot point between "modern" and "old". I believe this is the last of the cars with more grip than grunt, and there will never be another like it. Mine has the 030 US suspension, and I thought about fitting the Euro version, but it really doesn't need it, especially with the really ****ty socal roads (still rattles fillings out of teeth).
-ve points (and some +ve ones):
-
****ty plastics, similar to ford of same generation (even in full leather it still shines through)
-
feels fragile, something I cannot confirm, it's just a "feel", hasnt let me down yet, despite me driving it like a moffalovaa.
-
count on replacing all bushings, water pump and thermostat, no matter mileage, it is a 13 years old German car FFS, just do it (cheap if you do it yourself, not so much if someone else does it)
-
not worried about IMS, changed oil when I got it, and due another one anytime now, clutch seems ok, will do IMS when the clutch goes. Obviously I checked oil filters for residue and all that, but I also do that on the jeep.
-
Brake pad change was cheap, replaced with Stoptech's (did it myself, cost $96, +15 for Dot4)
-
Peeps love it, or if they don't they hate it. Let's face it is not a bright yellow Mustang which will make everyone smile (ask me how I know). Problem is, it is a porker, it gets lots of attention, and not all of it good. Living in Socal, the cops don't care, but every one else thinks you are a **** (4 letter word rhymes with Konst but no S}
-
The handling-, no I mean it, nothing goes around corners like a Porker. If you have never experience the center of inertia/rotation behind you, this will seriously mess with you. It is scary, but it never actually seems to go wrong.... Oh and did I mention it goes around corners like nothing else I have ever driven?
-
I love the aero look, I think standard 911s are pig ugly, this transforms it into on of the finest looking cars on the road (I also believe the 928 is the most beautiful car anyone has designed to date).
-
The factory sports exhaust!!!!. Thank the lords of petrol for that button, it may not get used much, but when it does it is because my neighbors are armed at 4:30am. All other times, let it rip!
Viz, I love it and wont be trading it anytime soon.
I will be taking a mistress, Chez GT350......
And I now have one in my garage! 2003 Aero, Lapis Blue, 65,000 miles. Drove it home from So Cal a couple weeks ago. Have put about 500 miles on it so far and haven't stopped smiling. It goes to my mechanic in a few weeks so we can figure out exactly what's been done previously. It's obviously been lowered, but I did not get any records.
hello I live in France, I have put five months to find my 996 aero kit...
there is very little original kit of France, or so with colors gray, black, with many km....
I wanted a bright color Indian red or yellow speed,
I found my beautiful near Stuttgart in Germany MK1 yellow Speed
I love the 996 is a very good GT
Sweet Jesus!
No affiliation, but there is a guy selling OEM GT3 front bumper covers. Somehiw he has 4 of them...Great way to build it yourself if so inclined.

1999 996 C4 - everyday driver. All original - in the shop right now for some paint touch-ups
I like the nice body lines... to me it looks like art.
Looks fast even parked.
Every day driver here in Northern Virginia, USA
Exactly, I agree...I keep telling people my yellow 996.1 Aero is my favorite car. I just think the looks are special....seeing this yellow one makes me want to horde them.!
And MVF2....230K miles....that is friggin awesome...looks fantastic too. How is the interior?
Wow, nice... very very nice. I think this is the first time I've ever laid eyes on a Targa with the GT3 aero kit installed. It really looks sharp. How are you liking the OEM GT3 wheels? I like the fact they are smoked. Gives the car a little more contrast. Matches well with the black top.
Howe easy is to find an original aerokit for the 996.2 Carrera ? Very keen on the Carrera fixed rear spoiler ( not the GT versions) but they seem to be very rare ( only originals)
BTW i think the 996 looks fantastic in any of them original aerokits !
Factory Aero's are getting harder and harder to find probably because people that have them are not letting them go....Arguably, the 996 Aero to me makes the biggest transformation of any generation. In fact, I think the aero packages for the 997 and 991 just don't really make the car look better as it does for the 996. Looking backward...my 993 has a OEM Aero but I could take it or leave it....not on the 996 though. I bet you won't see two SY Aeros next to each other like this....
The actual selling prices over the last year and half seem to have been going up.
They will never be equal to Turbo cars, but they do bring a premium over a regular C2.
I paid up for mine 6 years ago and I am glad I did.
Non- standard color 996 cars are also going up a little
I don't think so since the turbo/c4s rear is wider by a almost 2". However, the bumper is plastic and maybe it will just flex to fit....someone may have tried that before.
Someone installed one a year or so ago.
It required cutting a few inches out of the middle and plastic welding it back together.
Not a quick and easy bolt-on mod.
There are supposedly companies that make Turbo-style rear bumper for NB, but I don't know who they are or where to find them, nor the quality.
These yellow 911s are stunning !!!!
I will never forget myself for not putting on my 996 the full OE aerokit with the carrera rear spoiler when I retrofitted the M030 and XLF options , back then it was something like a grand to get it only as well. Last year I came across a full new OE kit with the rear carrera spoiler and it was like 7 grand....

Nice looking car.
I really need to find a set of stock cans to have bypassed. This car sounds great.
Hey y'all. I ran the VIN of a car for sale that I mentioned above in posts from last week...ran it through VinAudit and it didn't come up with much which was disappointing but a good sign I guess because it looks clean. Five owners and the current owner has only owned it for ~6 months and doesn't have maintenance records from past owners. Would anyone else be able to dig up info with the VIN below? How concerned should I be if he has no maintenance records but a PPI comes out clean? Appreciate any help/guidance!

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this this week, albeit I'm a little hesitant that there aren't service records since they've been lost over 5 owners and I'd be number 6...which does seem high if I ever sell down the road.
I had a long hard talk with my dad about purchasing the car. He's always been a Porsche nut but always said he'd wait until he retired when he had more time to play with it. You can see where this is going...he recently retired and now he's too tired. I don't blame him and he still loves Porsche's but he said his priorities have changed to stay healthy, learn the piano, and play with the grand kids (not mine). When he was first married, he used to own a lot of cool cars and tinkered with them so he understands why I'm so excited to buy this car. He discouraged me from this purchase, saying that it's a phase (I'm 35 and always loved cars/Porsche's, ironically because of my dad) and that he eventually spent a lot of time and money when he was younger and felt a weight lifted when he finally sold them all. He said I wouldn't understand unless I "got it out of my system" but said to learn from him. After the conversation, he said it's my life and maybe I need to learn. I offered the sentiment that I would love to bond with him and fly him out to Seattle to drive it to Maryland where he lives as a father son experience but he shot that down.
I want this car but now I'm second guessing myself and what I'm getting myself into. I'm asking myself - is it just a phase or will I be pleasantly surprised? I've never owned such a nice car and understand that I may not recoup what I monetarily put in but it could be a real gem of an experience. I'm in a serious relationship and I wonder if now's the time and how my priorities may change when it's time to buy a house and have kids (God willing). Anyone have any stories like this with family? Thoughts or advice on the situation and even on the car itself? Anything is appreciated as I'm more than ok with hearing the truth and not necessarily something to affirm me to go buy it. Thanks!
just H&R springs and billy struts. It's a good functional ride height, but it's a bit crashy. I'd really like to go to a PSS10 setup or ohlins R&T's
18" OZ's (let's trade wheels!)
Let's get these cars together for some pics local guy - top of Cypress one of these days? The PCA S2S cruises are great too, but so early in the AM.
I'm running the same suspension! But it looks like I have more wheel gap maybe because of my tires.. I'm running 225/40 and 285/30-18. How bout you? I'd love a set of the Ohlins too.
The Carrera Spoiler is not everybody's taste, but I like it.
From what I read years ago, it was originally designed for Cabriolet Aero cars, option choice for Coupe
2003 Carrera Aero
I think it looks fantastic and prefer it to the taco spoiler. I wish i could find a full aero kit for my 996 with that spoiler as well. Probably worth as much as a decent 944 8v ....
I posted in another thread about pricing but thought I would share here. I just picked up my second '99 Aerokit. The first one was a Silver with Boxster Red full leather interior (even the HVAC vents) that I sold to a friend. I missed it and jumped on this one when it popped up on Autotrader.
It's Paladio metallic with black full leather interior. Options include 030, XAA, sport seats, and rear wiper. A previous owner added the 4 barrel exhaust tips which I will be taking back to standard ovals.

Do you have details on the little lip on your aero kit spoiler? I searched through a bunch of your past posts and found information on the front bumper lip but not the one on the wing. Your car is spot on.
Thank you!! The carbon fiber wing insert is made by Cargraphic, it's on the car for more than 10 years, I think they discontinued that item.
It has 10mm spacers for the front only.
