Suggestion

I would check the car into the dealer immediately and find out why the car uses so many granola bars on such a short trip.......might be a signal the IMS is failing!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Also, three total replacement engines as I drove my new to me 99 home today. From Indy to CT, 12.5 hours driving time. The consumables are real, except the three new engines of course. It is Mirage/light gold over Metropol blue. Full Leather. 6spd. with a WaveTrac LSD. Heated seats. Memory seats. The trip computer and bi-xenon. 115,000 miles. Has the IMS guardian. New clutch. LED bulbs which are nice and bright. I sold a 968 coupe, 6spd to buy this. So, with those proceeds, it was only a $3k up charge to get the 996. I really love the way 996s look. How simple they are. Others can argue, but they are the closest to what the original 901 coupes looked like. Elegant and feminine, but taut. The drive was a mix of cloud and light snow. Michelin Pilot All seasons coped well. Averaged 69MPH and 26.4 MPG. That is pretty good. More pics to come. In the meantime, can anyone identify the black lip on the spoiler, the owner I bought from did not mention where it came from. I'm on the fence about it. PS - this will be my daily. Getting full snows on it this weekend.

POST 2Original post

Kevin: Congrats! Welcome to the club. Sounds like you got a great deal. Post some more pics when you get a chance.

POST 3Original post

What a great post. Only 3 engines got my attention. You did it the right way…do the deal, turn the key, and begin a new chapter of 996 ownership. Congrats on your purchase and 968 sale. Mine was PPI in Conn.long ago. Nice to hear you'll be driving in the winter.

POST 4Original post

Going that far with only 3 engines may be a record. Congrats on the new 996.

POST 5Original post

Congrats from another newbie 996 owner also a 99 mirage with 100K+ miles on it! My road trip home was only 2 miles further than my normal commute however. I've done the kind distance thing before too, almost prefer it that way. Sense of adventure and all!

POST 6Original post

Nice! I did similar with mine... Flew out to Illinois bought it, and and drove back to L.I NY - roughly 900 mi. and change. It was a really great drive (two days total 17 hrs.) and a nice way to familiarize myself with the car. I felt like a kid at Christmas all the way home! BTW, I think this is your spoiler http://www.vertexauto.com/ShowItem/2...yurethane.aspx It's not bad looking, but I think it would look better painted, due to the light color of the car... Congrats and Good luck with 'er!

POST 7Original post

congrats. BTW that polyurethane spoiler looks awful - I've seen it in real life. Looks tacked on

POST 8Original post

Congrats on the 996 and a nice color combination. I noticed your 968 in the classifieds and pondered it for a few days!.....but seriously, only ONE can of Red Bull 12.5 hours of driving?!

POST 9Original post

Congrats! Enjoy the car. I miss my car so bad. It was in the shop for a week for some work and I'm out of town. Can't wait to get back to drive it.

POST 10Original post

Congratulations. You had the grey 968? That looked like a clean one. I personally like the clean look of the NB with no extra spoiler.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, the grey 968 was mine. It was a lovely, fun car. And only 1 can of red bull. My strategy on long drives is to stay hungry. That way, I don't get sleepy.

POST 12Original post

Nice. Have to try that. Time to update your signature for the new car! Just bought the Hunt for 901. Upcoming trip reading material.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

@Jscaramella thanks for the support. People either love or hate the book. Hope you're the former.
