I have not opened the dash to check the wiring behind it.

I think the dealer is needed to reset some code for the MOST bus system.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

03 996, CDR23. Yes, that one.
Before all this started, the battery was kinda dead from sitting, so it was "recharged."
I turn the car on, and the radio does not light up. I checked the fuses, and the "soung system" was blown, so I replace it.
Still does not light up.
I remove the fuses for radio and soun"g" system for more than 10 seconds, replace, and still does not even light up.
I have not opened the dash to check the wiring behind it. I dread doing that. But any other thoughts before I do?--wires to check for, or does this mean it is muerto?
Thx in advance.
I would troubleshoot/solve the electrical problem first.
An 03 doesn't have the lockout so that's good. If its ruined you can easily get an OEM replacement if you want to stay that route. I have seen them from $100 to $300. Becker may even still repair them but personally not worth it.
Hmm. I've read all the troubleshooting issues, but never came across a thread that addressed the complete and total lack of "turning on."
I admit I don't miss the stereo for the engine sounds, but it would be nice at times. I guess I will look into getting a OEM online. I think the dealer is needed to reset some code for the MOST bus system.
Did the fuse pop again after or immediately upon replacement?
I would pull the radio and put a test light on the
Power and ign leads; check to be sure its plugged in correctly etc.
If the PO had an aftermarket until its possible a poor job was done installing
A splice point etc. All that ruled out then its the unit.
Becker autosound in NJ still repairs; maybe they also have core/replacements for a fee.
Did you try the fuse on the back of the head unit? You need the special tools to get it out /or you can make them. There's a thread here that covers it.
JC...if you want to stay OEM and you think it's really the head unit, I've got one that I pulled from my 04 C4S that I'll part with on the cheap...PM me if you're interested

Mine wasn't working when I purchased the car. When you open the face of the radio (push the button to let it flip down) there are exposed metal contacts. I cleaned them and it works like new. Alcohol and q-tip made it all better
