I assume you are a fellow Nord Stern member, but they used my car at the tech session for the IMS.

My question is, can I use a transmission out of a 02' C4?

That said, I can no longer take it so I am going to replace the transmission.

Before everyone says I should just send out the transmission to GBox for $4300, I found a lower mileage used box for significantly less money and it didn't have the 2nd gear issues.

Good day,
I have been scouring for days, but can not get a straight answer so I was hoping perhaps one of you might know the answer.
I have a 99 C4 Cab with a 6sp. My first gear either has a chipped tooth or I have a bad bearing as 1st gear screams at you when you are driving. It's been this way for about 17K miles for full disclosure. The car operates fine, and over the mileage, it hasn't gotten any worse. That said, I can no longer take it so I am going to replace the transmission.
My question is, can I use a transmission out of a 02' C4? Both appear to be Getrag G96.31 although I can not be for certain on my 99 as I can not locate the part number anywhere. I assume the bell housing and clearances are the same from a 3.4 and 3.6, correct?

That and I just dropped over 18K on repairs and upgrades to this car in the past 6 months and it's not like they are appreciating in value.

Go with the used one or have Courtney rebuild the current one. In either case you can use my lift to R&R it for some beer donations to the Rennenhaus. Easy to R&R. Can also do IMS, RMS and clutch and FW as required.
Thank you for the invitation. I had the guys at Imola Motorsports do all the work to date, Jeff and Kevin are good friends of mine. I assume you are a fellow Nord Stern member, but they used my car at the tech session for the IMS. How challenging is it to swap transmissions on a C4? I'd say I am relatively mechanically inclined having pulled Audi motors and transmissions in the not so distant past.
Ah, yes good guys at Imola. Not hard to do the swap. The worst is the top bolt on the bellhousing and the clutch slave. But you just drop the engine on to the cross member to gain the couple extra inches. The 02 should bolt right in. Shouldn't take more then 4 hours tops. Put new oil in the new trans before putting in the car.
