You have to be lucky to find one used for a decent price.

I got lucky and fund a un-used Durametric for $200.

Although the Snap-on Scanner I use now can't be found used for under $800.

I occasionally see used Snap-On scanners that can do bi-directional for under $450.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All
I'm looking for a durametric in the uk but the easy one retails at 400 and the pro is nearly twice that!!
Is this the best thing to get definitely , I want to be able to look at fuel trims etc, everything really , is there any other way of buying a cable and getting the software???
Thanks for your help !!
You just download the software for free from their website. Getting the cable is another thing. Why not contact them and find out how much shipping is? It really is the best solution for what you need.

You have to be lucky to find one used for a decent price. Usually they go for $200 - $250 (US) with one or two Vin's left (the enthusiast model can be used with 3 vin's). The new price is the new price - they're the only game in town, so there's no room for negotiation... Good Luck
You can pair up to order a Pro version and save 20%, and then have it shipped to you.
You might also be able to do that with the Enthusiast version.
Just bump this thread:

As others have said, used Enthusiast versions are about 200-250$ and will have either 1 or 2 usable VINs left. The pro version is unlimited VINs. Both of them hold their value very well, unless you use up the last VIN on the enthusiast version. But, if I remember correctly, you can pay Durametric to swap out a used up enthusiast for a new one.. or maybe its to trade up to the pro. I can't remember the details, but it adds value to even an enthusiast that has no VINs left.

I'm ready to buy the Option 3 pro kit. I live in the USA, in California. Not sure if it matters to Durametric if the pair goes to different countries.
With my 2005 997, I used

to read all CEL's and reset the 03XX ones I would randomly get. The free "Torque Lite" app that you get with it also gave a great deal of engine data as I recall.
You might want to see if this meets your needs before you drop a few hundred dollars into a real Durametric.
I did too. It's not cheap, but it's nice to know I'm not limited to three cars. I bought it directly from the durametric website. There may be a less expensive way to get one, but if I have an issue with it, it should be easy to deal directly with them.
So, the Durametric is just a cable and software that you load on your laptop? It's not a handheld code reader like the Foxwell I just bought and likely does not offer nearly the level of data that the Durametric software provides. Is that correct?
Thanks!
Bob
Yes, it's a windows based application. That means you could run it on a Windows tablet - it doesn't have to be just a laptop.
Depends what your foxwell can do. The biggest advantage to a diagnostic tool like this is bidirectional controls. You won't see this feature in any scanner under ~$450, if that. If you want something that can do fuel trims, 02 sensor voltages, etc., but doesn't have bidirectional controls I would recommend Blue Driver for $99.
Fixed it for you.
I occasionally see used Snap-On scanners that can do bi-directional for under $450.
The advantage to a Snap-On scanner is it will work for a lot of vehicles and not just Porsche.
I only use my Durametric for over-rev information.
Everything else is quicker and easier to grab my Snap-On scanner.
Although the Snap-on Scanner I use now can't be found used for under $800.
But I have an old Snap-on scanner that is worth about $350 that can do it, just a little slower and only up to 2014 vehicles.
The new one can do up to 2018.
But most cars I work on are 1990 - 2011.
Hard pass on a used Snap On unit. If you ever get a new car, the cost to update will be more than a new Autel Maxisys Mini. Besides, the new updates make older units slloowwww.
Yeah, the update prices from Snap-on are ridiculously expensive.
But I don’t work on newer cars, so my newest Snap-on should last me many years.
The newest vehicle I’ve worked on the last year or two is coming on Saturday.
2012 Toyota Camry.
I also have a 2011 Toyota Corolla and a 2011 Mercedes E350 showing up as well.
Everything else this weekend ranges from 1999-2008.
Nissan, Kia, Dodge, Chevy, Toyota, Fond, Mercedes
10 cars/trucks to be worked on this weekend, that’s the most ever at one time.
Excited and stressed!
FYI, to get the 20% discount Durametric requires that the two units be sent to a single address and purchased with one payment. So if you pair up then you have to work that out between you. We completed the purchase with no problems.
Just so you know if the price is a little bit on the high side you can always ask for a refurbished kit.
The link is at the very bottom of their models page.
I paid 200$ for mine with waranty and everything.
Hope it help

Foxwell NT530 wouldn't recognize our '02 convertible top module. Returned that and got Dura Enthusiast, don't yet know if it will calibrate our cab top.
The NT530 did show internal position of door microswitches and Dura doesn't, so Foxwell does have some good features it just wasn't yet fully developed. Maybe in future they come out with NT530 Pro model like they have with their 520.
