Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I Installed the Porsche 997.424.983.00 Short shift kit but not sure which alignment method is more accurate - the green centering bracket or the counted notches from previous original 996 shifter.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I Installed the Porsche 997.424.983.00 Short shift kit but not sure which alignment method is more accurate - the green centering bracket or the counted notches from previous original 996 shifter. The green bracket method moves the Left blue cable to the first notch and original was 7 notches in. Black cable is 5 in for both. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

The entire idea of aligning the shifter is to get it straight - left/right/forward/backwards. So the green tool is used to hold the shifter unit in the centered position then the notches are used to get the centering correct so that when the alignment tool is taken off the shifter stays in that position. If it doesn't you need to repeat the process.
