Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use built in gauge' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use built in gauge' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suggestion

Works great and the PCB I designed uses fewer components and less soldering, but only works with the VDO gauge.

Suggestion

The thread referenced above doesn’t require a separate sensor, it uses the oil temp signal already present in the DME.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all has any one fitted a oil temperature gauge to a 996 series 2 year 2002 if so where is the best place to fit the Tempature sender Thanks in advance . Bill Gammon U K.

POST 2Original post

Novel solution using built in gauge: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...mp-sensor.html I think within that thread they briefly discuss locations for secondary sensors, but it's been a while since I've read all of it.

POST 3Original post

Bill, The thread referenced above doesn’t require a separate sensor, it uses the oil temp signal already present in the DME. I made a similar, but improved ( IMO) version of his idea. Works great and the PCB I designed uses fewer components and less soldering, but only works with the VDO gauge. Here’s the link to my version: https://rennlist.com/forums/rennlist....php?t=1147246

I had missed your revision. Thanks! I'm not there yet, but it's on my "want to do" list.
