Not that much choice of quality used pcars up here.

Suggestion
I've sold most of my cars privately and almost always came ahead, but I sold my Honda Civic recently and everyone wanted to see a clean carfax.

Cars that are selling for $30K ($ CAD) have a clean history, my concern is that it may be hard to sell a 996 that's had work done?

Suggestion
It may retail at $30k at a dealer, but your car is going to be less than that in a private party sale - for comparison sake, mine was purchased in Canada with about the same mileage, it was a year newer than yours with the same mileage, and was a 4S vice a regular 4, and had a squeaky clean vehicle history.

Suggestion
After a certain age and mileage, dealers aren't even going to put it out on the lot, just wholesale it to some corner used-car lot or individual who sells on fleabay.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Trade in on what? Dealers will offer x dollars if they can get x+more dollars when they sell it. If they offer more than they can sell it for (or only break even) then they are adding their price/profit margin to the car you are buying from them.
Based on posts here the $19k will be considered more than the car is worth. But if you have actual examples of cars like yours selling in Canada for $30k then you should feel safe asking $25k. But I think you are looking at an uphill journey...and that is coming from a guy who feels 75000 mile (and less) 996.2s are $25k to $28k from dealers. And I'm talking US dollars.
Why would you ask this question? A spread of $11K or 1/3 the value of the car? If those numbers are true, sell it yourself unless you are not capable or don't care about $11K.
Lock this thread down!
^Be nice. It's a legit question. Given the accident history and how picky Porsche buyers tend to be, if you are happy with the trade in allowance on the CTTS, then avoid the hassle of the DIY sale.
Price is in $CAD, keep in mind it would now cost well over 25% just to cover the FX and duty for a Canadian buying a U.S Car. Trade in value would be towards an 09 CTTS.
Cars that are selling for $30K ($ CAD) have a clean history, my concern is that it may be hard to sell a 996 that's had work done? To what degree should the price to discounted to reflect the 07 accident? As mentioned the repair was perfect and done by Porsche.
Its a shell game on a trade-in. They can make the trade-in value look like whatever they want as it gets spread into the '09 you're buying. Obviously you'd do better selling privately, but the repair records will come up sooner or later in the negotiation. If you ask for more $ on the trade, they'll simply stick to the sticker price on the '09, instead of the usual price-wrangling at a dealer.
If you're that worried about your C4 value on the market, just trade it and be done with it.
So is the real question "what is my car worth because of accident history" because that's not what was originally asked.
If you sell your car yourself, you are most definitely going to get more money for it vs. trading it in. There is no question about that, probably to the tune of $2-8K depending on the deal. It's up to you if you want to go through the hassle to sell it.
I sell my cars myself because I don't like throwing that money away, but I know how to write an ad, host my own pictures, take good pictures, answer phone calls and emails almost immediately, and most importantly, price the car so it sells and sells within a week or less.
A lot of people price their cars to sell in a month, three months, or never.

I know you'll lose money on the trade but think about it - if you were a buyer and came here and asked if your car with an accident history was a good deal the response you would get is, "keep looking, there are plenty out there without accidents"
So you are up against that. Also now is an awful time to sell a sports car so just based on those two facts I would trade it in.
I'm not sure how things work north of the border but down here in the US there is a fairly significant tax advantage to trading it in as you only pay sales tax on the new car met of your trade. So while you may be leaving some money on the table by trading it in that blow is cushioned a bit by paying less in tax on your purchase (in your example the difference would be about $1,500 here in Colorado).
That is a nice touch but I know it doesn't work like that in California for certain. 3 weeks ago I bought a 2015 S550 Mercedes from the dealer in Torrance. And even though I am a Nevada resident (they have the tax credit program in Nevada), in California you pay flat sales on the price of the car you're buying, even if you were trading in a car that cost almost as much as the car you're purchasing! It was a real number when they brought me a $10,000+ sales tax bill!
I don't trade cars in - I'm just not willing to walk away from the $$. The ONLY trade I've ever done was my Boxster on my 996 - and that's because the independent dealership was VERY anxious to buy my seal-gray '03 986, which was in impeccable condition, and were willing to pay me close to what I could have sold the 986 for.
There really is an a$$ for every seat - you just have to be willing to wait for it to come along.
Ya trade in doesnt make sense at that price as that will sell here for high 20's all day long....but....what price are you getting the other car for? May turn out to be an ok deal (most likely not though) if youre getting a good price on the other car. Plus ive noticed pcars here tend to sit for quite a while on the for sale sites.
I realized that I lied in my previous post. I sold my X5 to Carmax - but that was because the estimator read the trip odomoter instead of the actual mileage, so they made me an offer based on the car having 1K miles instead of 40K miles.
I did give them a chance to adjust it, but they honored the estimate based on the incorrect mileage. That had to suck for the dude who made the error, since I didn't even buy a car from them.
I don't know that the accident would necessarily scare me off. If it happened in 07 and was yours then...and was fixed and still looks great and drives great then I wouldn't be that concerned. If the wreck just happened a month ago and you were trying to unload it quickly is where I would have the concern.
So, to summarize the opinions over the past week on 996 resale value, if a car has a red interior, it's worthless. If it's been in an accident though, piece of cake to easily sell it for top dollar.
I like red interiors too! In fact, I traveled all the way to Canada to buy a C4S with a Boxster Red interior.
To the OP - on that note, I think you may be overestimating the value of the car in Canada. The seller had it on the market for a while in the Vancouver area, and I ended up paying him well under $30k CDN for it. I got a very, VERY good deal mind you - but I think you might be closer to the trade in price now that I think about it. You may only be losing one or two thousand here, not 10.
$19K! are you kidding?!....Sell it privately! With our petro-dollar dropping, US imported cars are becoming very expensive; you now have to add 30%+ to account for duty, exchange and taxes. I'm guessing early spring, it will be an easy sell between 25-30k.
A buddy of mine lost out on two 2007 997 C4S...both sold locally very quickly for full asking price of 56K. Not that much choice of quality used pcars up here. The cheap ones are cheap for a reason!
There is definitely a lot of money to be saved selling privately. But it's not all roses. You have to be ok with taking your time to respond to inquiries, waiting around for no-shows, and letting complete strangers take the car out for a spin...many of whom have no intention of buying but just want to see what a Porsche can do. And there's no way I would get in the car with a prospective buyer unless I knew the guy. Heard of some horror stories back in the day, and there are a lot more wackos and creeps out there now. Plus you never know what kind of pain in the backside some buyer will be after the sale. Had that experience once too. Law was on my side but it still was very aggravating. Idk what I'll do when the time comes to get rid of mine. Probably by then sell it to Carmax. I did that with 2 very high-mileage Volvos. They gave me about $500 less than I could've got selling them privately. After a certain age and mileage, dealers aren't even going to put it out on the lot, just wholesale it to some corner used-car lot or individual who sells on fleabay.
30k Seems ridiculous high! where are you getting those prices? I have 99 convertible with upgraded IMS same KM, upgraded stereo and rims and over all perfect condition if I got 20k for it right now I would be happy.
Private sale is better, but of course a pain in the ars. Prices in the great white north are much higher... check out autotrader.c a and you'll see what I mean.
I've sold most of my cars privately and almost always came ahead, but I sold my Honda Civic recently and everyone wanted to see a clean carfax. I think good pics on hand to show that the damage was cosmetic would definitely help in my opinion .
$19k CDN is about $16 USD? Yeah, that sounds about right for a trade-in value. Personally, I know I could get a few thousand more by selling a car myself, but then I'd have to...sell the car myself. I know how people are--I don't want them at my house poking around my Porsche, I don't want them calling me back the next day to ask me questions, etc.
Let's not pretend the whole private party sale process isn't worth acknowledging.
To the original poster, I have been looking in the Toronto area for a car like yours for the past 6 months. I would agree you can list it for $30, but based on what I have seen, these cars are not selling for that amount. Most I have seen with similar options are low $20's without accident history. I have looked at two recently for below $20, although they were C2's not C4's.
Not sure if others have seen anything different in the Toronto area.
As I said, I am looking, if you are interested in talking, send me a PM.
It all depends on your ability to absorb the difference. I just traded a high dollar Jag on a Porsche . Dealer was fair and had a clean low mile car that got certified . I think any used car in the 70k range is not easy privately . Also recapped all the sales tax on the Jag . The jag had some minor cosmetic stuff that is not easy on my end . Trade on !
