Had a similar issue with my 04 C2 years ago - dealer made several attempts by using pieces of foam around the dash area from the inside all to no avail.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought a 2004 996tt in really nice shape last month and have been taking care of a list of issues with only a few remaining. Ive posted in 996 cause I dont think its exclusive to turbo. Car drives awesome and Im real happy with it. I have rear wing issue to fix and this issue... Im getting a squeaky, creaky noise coming from what seems like the dash area. I searched this and found TSB 6420 ( https://rennlist.com/forums/attachme...d-tsb-6420.pdf ) addressing this calling for a foam cord to be inserted around the outside of the windshield trim. It calls for inserting 2 layers of foam cord. I did one and drove the car and noticed no difference. Maybe Ill do the 2nd layer but it just doesn't seem promising. Does anyone have any experience with a noise like this coming from the the dash area? The best way I can describe the sound is it sounds like your twisting a piece of Styrofoam in your hands: squeaky/creaky. Any thoughts???

Hey roadsession. Tempting... From the inside I presume? Mine is a cab too btw.

Yes from the inside. Krytox is a very expensive, but effective lubricant for moving parts like convertible hinges, joints, etc because it doesn't attract dust and sticks to the surfaces very effectively.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey road. I bought the krytox. Didnt see the vw message till this morning. Im hoping a little goes a long way? I intend to use it sparingly wherever Im getting noise. Also, can you describe how you got the lub into the dash/windshield space? Is there any trick to it or was it easy? Thanks.

POST 7Original post

Had a similar issue with my 04 C2 years ago - dealer made several attempts by using pieces of foam around the dash area from the inside all to no avail. The fix for mine was too simple. I was treating the black plastic at the cowl with a petroleum based undercarriage spray and decided to treat the strip that contacts the windshield at the cowl area and inadvertently got the spray on the bottom of the windshield so it seeped between the glass and that strip. The squeak and creek was greatly improved so I repeated that process a couple of times over a few weeks and all went silent and has never returned. Not saying that it will fix your issue, but it's simple and cheap and worth a try.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Silo. So, basically we're putting lube on the windshield glass itself where it makes contact with the cowl?

Yes. I did the glass and the rubber at the base of the glass.
