Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The aftermarket short shifter installed in my car by the previous owner has quite a bit of play in the bushings, and Id like to tighten it up. I found these machines bushings from Phoenix Engineering and Im thinking about swapping them in. https://phenixengineering.com/shop/p...t-bushing-kit/ My question: can I swap the bushings without removing the shifter frame and disconnecting the cables? The existing bushings are just held on with C clips and it looks like I can get at them with the boot removed.

POST 2Original post

Might be hard for others to answer unless they have that same shifter. It is definitely aftermarket.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After market or not, is the shifter under tension from the cables when its in neutral? I want to know if pieces are going to go flying if I pull the bushing out. It looks safe, but Ive never messed with a shifter before.

POST 4Original post

No, they are not under tension from the shifter cables while in neutral.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok. Thanks @cds72911 I've never messed with a shifter before, but I'm going to give this a try.

POST 6Original post

If it helps at all, removing the center console isn't too bad. I can take it out in under 10 minutes now (I've done it a lot!). The first time is harder, since you won't know where all the fasteners are. There is helpful info both here in posts and on the pelican site ( https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart..._Shift_Kit.htm ).

POST 7Original post

I would also just remove the center console, there is very little room to remove forward or rearward and if you drop a clip you'll have to pull it anyway.
