Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

So before going in for surgery I installed some of the LED license plate lights that Topaz330ci recommended.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So she's at the dealership today getting coolant tank replaced and am getting transmission fluid replaced. (Yes I know about the lifetime fill etc etc but that's 8 year old fluid in there).
So before going in for surgery I installed some of the LED license plate lights that Topaz330ci recommended.
And I had them installed on the bimmer too.
I think the bimmer has nice headlights
They look good. I've been meaning to order some too. Those Halo-lights look cool on BMW's. I gotta buddy with an new Mustang and he put similar aftermarket Halo light on his.
You need a philips head screw driver.
Unscrew the housing under there.
remove the old bulbs.
replace with these.
If it doesn't light up, reverse the polarity.
Phil - I used to think exactly the same thing
nothing like dim lights on the license plate on the Merrit Parkway late at night to dodge the occasional cop....
BUT my speed racer on public roads are over and I realized after seeing the new BMW's with them on - how much "crisper" the car looks from behind...
So far I am a little torn. It looks natural on the BMW but on the Porsche it doesn't look "period correct" - kinda like putting LED tail lights - just screams a little bit of 'trying too hard' - but I'm going to leave it on for a few weeks and see what happens
Ordered a set for the plate, door markers and dome lights on Tuesday. Will post pics this weekend when installed. Ordered from superbrightleds....pretty cost effective for a quick visual upgrade.
So I noticed this evening one of the bulbs burned out already. I think these things are junk. They didn't have a heat sink on them - maybe that's why. Anyway, stupid $30 experiment...going back to regular bulbs.
another reason for me to switch back to amber halogen...but anyway I don't think it applies in MA because all the new BMW's and Lexus have the LED license plate lights. What do they do for cars sold in CA?
I don't think LED plate lights would be illegal since it actually enhances visibility to the plate. Corner lights, signal lights on the other hand have to be amber. If the plate lights were blue, then for sure you would get stopped. But since they are crystal clear white lights, I don't think anyone would ever have a problem with them.
Like mentioned before above, most new Lexus models come with them legally.
