Suggestion

Most of what I hear sounds like exhaust noise, I'm not familiar with the 996, but you should check for a leak in the headers which can make metallic-like sounds.

If so mine went away when I changed the oil to 5/50.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone, anyone familiar with idle noise in 911,996 which goes away while revving the car, feels like metal contact... At idle if I shift from parkt neutral, gear, reverse... It increases noise during the shifting & than becomes same noisy as at park idle ... i have uploaded the audio today... It is 2001, 996... mileage is 140000kms Earlier I have put wrong details, sorry for that... Thanks

POST 2Original post

I seem to get a little bit of this sound in my 2013 C4S when cold, which also goes away when warm. How stable is your idle RPM when the engine is cold?

POST 3Original post

Are you referring to a ticking noise? If so mine went away when I changed the oil to 5/50.

POST 4Original post

You may want to provide more info for someone to help you such as; Which model do you have, how many miles on the car, when was your last oil change, did this start just recently or been present for some time, is this a daily driver or does it sit for extended period of time? Mine made a ticking noise once on start up which sounded like a lifter. The car only had a few thousand miles from new and it went away after I drove it gently for a mile or so. Never has done it again and has almost 9k miles currently on it. I didn't hear that sound on your video, not like mine.

POST 7Original post

That's not a 991. You have a 996. You're in the wrong forum.

Most of what I hear sounds like exhaust noise, I'm not familiar with the 996, but you should check for a leak in the headers which can make metallic-like sounds. Good luck.
