Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Just to be clear, I do trust the indy, he keeps me fully informed on what is going on and talking to other certified Porsche techs, the answer is almost always the same - The roof is a big Joy when it works, however once something goes wrong it made some of them considering changing the Jobs after having 1 of them out and back in.
Leading evidence: 'Use silicon' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace jobs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

There is a very slight buzz from the wind deflector - I probably just need to tighten the screws.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am considering purchasing a 2002 Targa and would welcome comments / experiences with the glass roof.. water leaks? mechanism noise while driving? other negative issues?
Thanks!
Rob
Bought mine in march. I love it. Best of both world IMO. You can, however expect some squeaks and rattles, especially when it's cold. Well worth it though. Plus the extra headroom is nice.
Mines an 03 since May. A few squeeks now thAt the weathers cold. Needed a bit of grease when I bought it. Might need a little more now. If i knew then what i know now if I am being truthful I would go Carrera, but not because of problems. I learned that i am just not an open roof guy.
i;ve had my '02 for 10 months - no roof issues. I put some lithium grease on the tracks after I got it - opens and closes very smoothly. There is a very slight buzz from the wind deflector - I probably just need to tighten the screws.
Targa's are a great compromise between coupe and convertible - with added bonus the glass hatch opens at the back too. Even with glass closed - it gives the car a very airy feel ... lots of light in the cabin .... and the sunshade works pretty well - but car probably does get a bit hotter than a coupe if you park in the sun a lot ....
i kick myself daily for trading in my 993 targa. it was so fun. the roof never gave me any problems. go for it as it really gives the best compromise. hey BSonwine -- want to trade. '04 C4S -- 53K miles?
03 Targa,
Performed scheduled lubrication, No squeaks or rattles. Movement Noises when cold but of no concern as they diminish when everything heats up.
Use of opening back windows is useful, Airiness of cabin space is welcome,
No need to stop when rain comes. Not to many of the model were made.
I know the thread bump was a mistake but I will chime in.
2003, 63k miles. Lots of little rattles and squeaks along with a slap-bang noise from the passenger side over bumps. Roof movement back and forth seems fine.
Rear storage area and hatch is extremely useful. Wish all 911s featured this!
02 Targa , purchased in 2014 and love it . Did all the preventive stuff, IMS etc and of course the Lubrication fun part. Every year or so even took out all the Roof Motor gears, cleaned them and used silicon before reinstalling .
That is where the good news ends. As of 3 months or so, the car is in the Shop , first issue the Fuel evaporations system was fixed fast as it smelled like gas in the car and it would not fuel easy as expected. After 8 gallons or so it stopped and would only take little at the time to get it full. However for a while the Roof was not very happy closing on its own - needed some help and i stopped using it since then .The other result of that, the micro with to enable the hatch was never triggered again and the hatch stayed close since. Now for the mentioned 3 months the car is in the shop ( i told them to take there time and work on it once they are not busy - this way he can get me a better deal) , but after the whole roof is out, lots of things seem to be in need of replacement. The cables are shot (rusted I have been told) and some of the other little parts are done for. The next big thing, where the Indy is doing some research, it seems the gears are toast and the only to replace them is the full kid ( 2 of them) with Motor to the tune of $650+ each. If we have to replace everything with Porsche parts ( not able to just find the gears somewhere else) then the total bill for the whole Doctor list will reach in the 5K with labor. I was expecting about 3k for the whole thing, but that seems to be a pipe dream.
Either way, whatever the the final result is, I still love the car and don't plan on getting rid of . Maybe I should had followed the recommendations - every time you use the Roof - put a $100 Bill in the glove box - you will need it someday
