Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
If you have some other scheduled maintenance that requires removal of the engine I'd get the bearing replaced then.
Leading evidence: 'Replace then' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace then' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Since I was a young boy I had my eye on the 911. My dream was to one day own one, to be part of the heritage, to be part of the history and to be part of this special club. Well, a few weeks ago I entered this club and I cannot be happier! I purchased a 2002 C2 Cabriolet with 128,000 miles on it. Before I made this decision I looked at 13 different 996's ranging from 2002-2004. I wanted a C2 non turbo in very good condition and a record of maintenance was a deal breaker for me. After a two month search I found this baby. All records confirmed through Hennessy Porsche in Georgia, the overall condition is very good. The car had two owners but one had it for over 10 years. No accidents and when I called the service department at Hennessy Porsche, the guy told me this car had one of the best maintenance records he had ever seen. The second owner did not spare anything. They had 36 records including all repairs and oil changes. Needless to say the car drives great, it's fun, fast and it makes me want to be a better driver. Every time I get behind the wheel it is a new experience! I will be buying new tread, air filter and shortening the shifter over the next month or so. I am honored to be part of this club! -Peace
Welcome and enjoy the ride. It took me 30 years from selling my 1968 911 to the "someday" I'll have another.
I've had my C2 for 7 years now and still look forward to getting behind the wheel.
Nice ride. With 138k already on the clock I don't think I'd rush to do the IMSB immediately. If you have some other scheduled maintenance that requires removal of the engine I'd get the bearing replaced then. In the mean time be hyper vigilant with your oil and filter changes and cut open and examine your filter each time for any shiny metallic particles. Enjoy it!
Yup. I spoke directly to mechanics at Hennessy Porsche which have been servicing the car for the last 9 years. No signs of bearing issues. Your advice is well taken...Thanks
Welcome aboard.. I also bought a car that was serviced by Hennessy. They kept all the records and actually printed ( with a white out of owner) and gave me the records.
Enjoy the Pcar - check out "Pcar Touring" a group of about 30 of us North Georgia enthusiasts that take monthly cruises with spouses to a lunch destination ( Mountain wineries, Lake Oconee and NC trip).
Its 128k miles but yes, he sure did. According to the mechanic at Hennessy, the IMS issue is not as common as people think. They find that the make or break time is 70,000 miles on the 996. He has only had 8 IMS failures with cars over 70k over the last 10 years. Considering that he estimates working on over 20,000 cars through out his career, that made me feel better. He has been servicing P cars for nearly 25 years. Anyways this is a discussion that has been re-hashed a million times.
very interesting piece of data, that supports the many threads I've read over the years.
