Thanks, I checked the thread and was desperatley hoping that the only issue was a loose oil cap.
Leading evidence: 'loose oil cap' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'loose oil cap' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check couple of things' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The shop replaced the coolant reservoir and hoses and hooked the system up to the machine to ensure there were no leaks or air in the lines.

I then had to have the vehicle towed to a highly recommended Indy in the Reno area.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have an 04' Targa with approximately 90K miles on it that started leaking what I first believed to be oil. The leak was coming from behind a heat shield behind the driver's side rear wheel. I subsequently took the vehicle to a family mechanic that diagnosed the problem as a coolant reservoir leak. While attempting to photograph the leak, he pushed on the coolant hose and inadvertently broke that as well. I then had to have the vehicle towed to a highly recommended Indy in the Reno area.
I'm sure I'm not the first to have this problem and I'm wondering how much you guys would estimate it should cost to rectify? The Indy has about 4 Boxers in front of me so he wont have time to look at it until later this week.
No. Some people lower the engine to the bottom of the mounts to make it easier. You probably know this, but the engine hangs from the motor mounts. You can unscrew the nuts to the lowest position while still being attached, This will give another couple of inches of clearance.
awesome. Thanks for the info. Still wondering what to expect as far as costs at the Indy. Id rather not tow it from there back to my place then try and do it myself. Im not the even a fledgling mechanic 😂
Thanks everyone. It ended up costing about $700 which was a pleasant surprise. However now I have another issue;
The shop replaced the coolant reservoir and hoses and hooked the system up to the machine to ensure there were no leaks or air in the lines.
A day after picking the vehicle up my check engine light turned on. I have a code reader and it said, Idle air control system RPM higher than expected.
I spoke to the shop and they advised that I clear the code as it is possible that an air bubble in the line caused the issue.
what are your thoughts? Anybody had this problem after replacing their coolant system?
I've been around the world twice, and spoken to everyone once, but I ain't never heard of no "air bubble in the line" causing no idle air control system rpm issue. That's a real knee slapper!
Thanks, I checked the thread and was desperatley hoping that the only issue was a loose oil cap. On the thread LOREN said it could be a
one of two things;
- Throttle is jammed
- Leaks in intake air system
I dont believe its a stuck throttle as when i turn the vehicle on it warms up at about 1100 RPM then goes down to approximately 900 RPM and thats my que that the vehicle is warmed up. As I drive, and come to stops, the RPMs jump back up to 1100 at idle and the check engine light pops back on. Wonder how much this ones gona cost.....
SOOOOOO Bad news today from the Indy.....
I have 2 intake leaks......mechanic says when he hooks the intake to the smoke machine smoke just pours out. Unfortunately, the mechanic believes they will have to drop the engine to get to broken hoses..... no estimate on how much this is going to cost as he's still trying to source parts.
Anyone had this issue that can advise what this is going to cost me?
Why? I can pull the intakes in about an hour with the motor in the car. If its not the aos cross over tube u can get to almost everything by just pulling the plenums.
Goodness, you are going about this all wrong. I'm taking it that you have NO mechanical knowledge or abilities. I'm also taking it that you probably do not even know how to open your engine lid and look in there. The Porsche engine and mechanical components are indeed a great mystery and only the Gods of Porsche can touch it, much less fix it.
Dude - have them show you the smoke test, stand there and see it for yourself. Unless you are a Porsche owner that just likes to open your wallet and walk away to see the barrista..
Im not sure how Im doing it ALL wrong. I took the vehicle to a reputable Indy and Im asking questions on a discussion board prior to having them perform the suggested repairs. Im definitely not a mechanic but I can turn a wrench and follow directions. Do you know of any threads that advise how to fix this problem yourself? If so, please point me in the right direction rather than going on a rant about me wasting money.
Any threads for replacing the aos in a tip csr will show the steps to get the intake off on the drivers side. The passenger side is even easier. Most show loosening the motor mounts to drop the engine a little but i didnt have to. Here is a pic with the intakes off and u can reach all the vacuum tubes. I think paying 4 it is fine but paying too much because if the labor to pull a motor is foolish.
