Suggestion

Ended up using a ratchet strap to align the mounting points which made it doable where without it I would not have been able to get it installed.

Suggestion

1) Better roll over protection, based on the main loop sits on a steel plate mounted right above sub frame, in contrast to most bars that bolt on using seat belt bolt and rely mostly on shear strength of bolt.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

who has experience with bolt in roll bars? Please explain what you like or don't like about the one you have.

POST 2Original post

Also will be in the market for one in the next 6 months, also curious. Thanks as always for any advice/opinions.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a Tequipment bar for my 964 and would be interested in the 996 equivalent but would consider aftermarket. I will need to be able to keep my seat far back for leg room with GT3 seats.

POST 4Original post

My research pointed me in the direction of the RSS 901. https://roadsportsupply.com/901-00-4...teel-uncoated/ The reason I like it is I can put my seat (Euro GT3) all the way back, it has a tab for the seat belt, doesnt obstruct my view out the rear, allowed me to keep bose speakers, bolts in with no modifications so completely reversible. I almost went with the Tequipment Bar but I understand it restricts rear travel with fixed back seats.

POST 5Original post

I got the factory one in my car and I love it. Was thinking about selling it.

POST 6Original post

I have an RSS 930 Like Fits well, no interference with seat (for me) Bolts to the shock towers, I like the fact it ties them together from a chassis rigidity standpoint, also, the towers are generally (NOT BMW) a very strong part of the car Looks cool Is there if ever needed Don't like Installing it - was pretty beat up after. Ended up using a ratchet strap to align the mounting points which made it doable where without it I would not have been able to get it installed. Funny story - mid install I called the dude I bought it from to ask who he had install it, he said he gave up and had a shop do it and had no idea how they accomplished the install. I asked him for the contact info of the shop and gave them a call. The guy at the shop knew right away what I was talking about - I'm like, so how did you end up doing it - his response, 2 big dudes... I'm thinking efff that and after sleeping on it, thought of the ratchet strap idea... one small dude and a ratchet strap !

I went with Dassport for the following reasons: 1) Better roll over protection, based on the main loop sits on a steel plate mounted right above sub frame, in contrast to most bars that bolt on using seat belt bolt and rely mostly on shear strength of bolt. 2) Rear mounts are direct bolt to shock towers, with full size bar connecting left and right for a rigid brace. 3) Rear loop "X" design allows clear vision through rear view mirror 4) Two piece construction made install a breeze 5) I then color matched, which you can do with any bar

POST 8Original post

How does the Dassport do for range of seat adjustment. I need to put it pretty well as far back as it goes.

It does limit travel. I am short and chubby, so it wasn't an issue. But, yes it limits full travel

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does it mount to the seat belt anchor?

POST 11Original post

Im tall and chubby, so maybe it would be for me. If you had to guess, would you say it restricts the last inch, inch and a half, two inches? I get its a guess but if you had to venture one... appreciate your feedback and information.

POST 12Original post

I bought a used RSS 901/30 rollbar and installed it myself. The RSS bolt-in rollbar was a HUGE pain to install! I didn't know about the ratchet trick,so it was just me pushing as hard as I could while trying to get the bolts started. If I had it to do again, I'd GLADLY pay someone to do it! (AOS, water pump, Feal coilovers, GBOX installs are NOTHING compared to the RSS bolt-in rollbar install. It was an entirely new level of difficulty.) Back in the 80's and 90's, I built a couple of SCCA race cars(GT3 & ITC) starting with AutoPower bolt-in rollbars/cages. The first (VW Scirocco GT3) had a full bolt-in cage, which later I had additional door bars welded in. The second (VW Scirocco ITC) started with a bolt-in roll bar(while a street car) that later had the weld-in front cage added. I did the bolt-ins of both all by myself, so I'm familiar with bolt-in roll bars and cages. (At least I was 30 years ago)

Tequipment installed in my 996 with Euro 6GT3 seats Not a super easy install but fits as you'd expect from Porsche specifically made application Bought mine on RL shipped greyhound

A few years back there was a Porsche Tech that did work on my car, he was 6'6"+. He fit, but, legs were pretty cramped. He actually had more problems with big feet and pedals in a 996.2 One or two of my Instructors at PCA HPDEs, were around 6', maybe a little more, they were comfortable.

You can see clearly here how the steel mount sits right on top of sub frame. This is what sold me for roll over protection.

POST 16Original post

NYoutftr, Thanks for the additional pics, leaning towards the Dassport now but range of seat adjustment is important for my 6’2” 245lb self. How much range of seat adjustment (base towards the back of car) do you think you gave up? The last inch, inch and a half, two inches? Thanks
