Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, Porsche [phone removed] coupe 3.8l manual. I replaced the head unit as previous unit intermittent 8 times out of 10 radio no sound. 2 out of 10 works great. I have a feeling the issue is the amp and or fibre optics. Should I replace amp as well or is there a way to fix fibre optics wires? Thanks, Scott

POST 2Original post

Any way to swap in a known good amp to see if that's the problem? Do a search for CDR23 in the forum; you'll have lots of reading material.

I've dealt with MOST based units, and since the 2003 model was the first run that Porsche implemented there were quite a few problems. It's hard to know or pinpoint based on what you're saying... just a finger in the wind guess. But if I had to give a blind guess, I'd lean towards the amp over the head unit.

POST 4Original post

Not just the amp, it could be anything on the fiber ring. CD changer or phone if installed.

POST 5Original post

In my case, with similar symptoms, it was a bad amp.

POST 6Original post

Maybe its that 3.8L motor. I dont think I would ever turn the radio on if I had one.
