While I had all lugs off, in addition to polishing the heads, I used a nylon brush to clean all threads, and used a thread chaser down a couple that had very minor nicks/burrs in the threads.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Guys, I'm having problems finding the specs of the standard lug bolts on my 996. I don't have spacers, but I see a bunch of different lengths available, so it's not clear which ones I need and I didn't find it in a search here. Any help with regards to spec and part numbers would be awesome!

POST 2Original post

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-part...19d30mwzn~ecs/ These are black, but they are stock length.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks - so it looks like I need the 45mm bolts. That's what I thought, but it wasn't clear.

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 16975639

I just bought 5 of these to replace my security lugs (and one with rough threads). They are correct. 997-361-203-02 https://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/o...lt-99736120302 45mm is the standard lug, at least for mine with the black GT3 wheels. I believe the lugs are also available in black, but the above are for the silver/galvanized lug bolts.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Perfect! Just what I needed. Thanks.

POST 6Original post

I was going to post this elsewhere, but this is as good of a place as any. Since I was replacing my security lugs, I thought that I should clean up the others as well. Interestingly, there is a slight (insignificant) difference between the old 996 lugs and the newer 997 lugs. (997-361-203-02) Old security lugs (upper right). Polished with dremel, and light coat of high temp clear paint (since I probably polished off some galvanizing. (left). I tried black paint, but decided I didn't like it (lower right). Original cleaned lugs on left, newer 997 lugs on right. New feature in middle of head. Original cleaned lug on left, newer 997 lug on right. Head is slightly shorter.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Interesting. My dealer mentioned I should change them last time I was in, but I don't see a lot of wear on mine. Is there an age reason they should be changed.

POST 8Original post

Hmm, I don't know. I suppose any metal can fatigue with time, but I've never heard discussion of replacement based purely on age before. Maybe some of the more experienced and actual Porsche mechanic folks will weigh in. For me, I was tired of the security lugs being a PIA. While I had all lugs off, in addition to polishing the heads, I used a nylon brush to clean all threads, and used a thread chaser down a couple that had very minor nicks/burrs in the threads. One bolt had some more significant rust towards the top of the thread just below the collar, so I decided to replace that one in addition to the security lugs.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been using this dealer for the last year and am still building trust. Seems suspicious to me that this is suddenly a problem the first time my 996 visits them (Not had a problem with my Macan visiting them yet). They also wanted to charge me $650 for a new battery - outrageous - replaced it myself for $160.

POST 10Original post

Get these. Please note that I have aftermarket wheels, so different lug bolts from OE. I've had them on the car wheels for years and they look perfect.

POST 11Original post

Those look amazing, and I briefly considered Titanium, until I realized that I could replace 5 standard lugs for $40, or I would be in for a full set of Titanium for $400. Maybe one day.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 16975734

Interestingly, Sunset Porsche says they don't fit my 2000 C2.

POST 13Original post

I originally got the part number from Pelican Parts https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...6120302OEM.htm Which for me, shows that it is compatible with my 2004 C4S. Also, at AutoAtlanta, it lists (item 5, no spacers) the 996 part number, but when you go to select the Genuine Porsche part, the part number has been superseded by the above 997 part number. http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=601-00 But you're right, now that I've checked, Suncoast also says it doesn't fit my car. However you can also look at my photos, and see that minor differences aside, they are clearly the same, and they do work perfectly on my wheels. So ... I don't know. I think Suncoast just has an issue. Since you have a 2000, you might run similar checks through Pelican, AutoAtlanta, etc, just to be sure.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was figuring on getting them from Pelican. https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...=0&SVSVSI=4311

$7.50 each, or $3.50 each? I'm currently using the one's from ECS on my C4S. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-part...19d30mwzn~ecs/ I'm sure they have silver as well.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16976214

They do and they're priced at $7.90 each. I have sport design wheels, so they have to be silver.

POST 17Original post

Granted these are black and for some reason they don't have silver at this price. Weird. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-part...19d30mwzn~ecs/

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 16976221

The black are much less expensive because they are an internal ECS brand. ECS doesn't seem to fabricate silver ones, so the silver ones sold at ECS are either Febi, or Genuine Porsche. For me, I found Febi at $7.95, or Suncoast has genuine Porsche on sale for $8.27. So for only 32-cents per, it made sense just to get the genuine Porsche item. That's a "Porsche Tax" I can handle.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16976385

Yeah, I'll get the Febi ones (if I need to get them), as they're the OEM supplier and I have a PCA coupon for Pelican that I've not used.

POST 21Original post

Those are strange in that they seem to come in nonstandard sizes. 45mm is the stock size, and some people go larger if they run spacers. But those come in 30, 37, and 48mm. Maybe they're measuring differently? Strange. I wouldn't know what to trust there. Edited with stock size (45mm nominal) genuine Porsche bolt measurements: That is not actually how I measured, just how I laid out the calipers for the photo. That is not actually how I measured, just how I laid out the calipers for the photo.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16978769

Yup - I saw the same. I wouldn't touch anything that didn't align with stock sizes.

POST 23Original post

I believe since Numeric sells 3,7,15,and 19mm spacers their measuring from the seat to the end of the bolt. That would make the 30mm stock and the others 7 and 18mm longer than stock. The ECS bolts are described as 45mm shaft, 30mm length under the seat.
