I run hankook ventus rs4 on my e30 and get super consistent laptimes and a ton of weekends out of a set.

Suggestion
The size up was recommended by the shop owner who works on much faster 911s than my 996 and track cars.

When I got new tires for my C4S last year, Kelly Moss recommended the General GMax RS as the best "daily driver" tire.

FWIW I have the lightweight wheels on my C2 and am running 235/40/18 and 295/30/18 and am very happy with the set up so far.

Getting ready to buy new tires. Currently running Dunlop Direzza Starspec IIIs. I have an ‘03 Cab (18s) that I track a couple of times a year. Wanted to get impressions of the Cup 2 s for predominantly street use. Open to suggestions. Would it be better to get an max performance summer tire like the Conti ExtremeContact Sport vs. extreme performance? Appreciate the input.
No chance I would spend that kind of money on a tire that will last 2 weekends and not be great for daily driving. What other options are available in your size on tire rack? The rt615k+ would be a great option if there is stock available.
Also worth checking out Maxxis performance tires as they have a good dual duty option on the market as well.
They are on sale and would only be $100 more than the continental�s. They don�t have the Falcons in my size. They do have the Bridgestone p s04,RE-71R , S0071a and P zeros Rosso which I haven�t heard great things about. On the cheaper side they have Sumi HTR z5.
What size are your wheels and tires? I will try to do some research during lunch. I agree I would NOT go with the Pzeros. I would rather run the Sumi's than the Pzeros.
FWIW I have the lightweight wheels on my C2 and am running 235/40/18 and 295/30/18 and am very happy with the set up so far. Speed difference is 1mph between what the GPS shows vs the car. No rubbing at full lock. This sizing opens up some tire options.
I would get the 71r's if speed/grip is #1 priority, Continentals if comfort/wet handling #1, and HTR Z5 if value is #1.
I have run Sumitumos before and they are serious value prop if laptimes arent important to you. The 71r would be my preference over Cup2's for the $250 savings and hopefully longer lifespan while still EXTREMELY sticky,

I just ordered a set of the General GMax Rs in that size for my 03 c2 with the lightweight wheels. Looking forward to seeing the difference from the 8 year old sumi's... Glad to hear you are having a good experience with that size, i was a little nervous going up outside of the stock size.
I dont track the car so that was not a consideration. However, i think the sport cup 2 is overkill for most of weekend hpde drivers. I run hankook ventus rs4 on my e30 and get super consistent laptimes and a ton of weekends out of a set. The cup 2 is a good deal right now on TR. i looked at those also. I want to drive my car in cold weather in atlanta and the cup 2 does not like that...

I got the G-Max too put on just as I purchased my car last week. The size up was recommended by the shop owner who works on much faster 911s than my 996 and track cars. I drove from Tampa to the Tail of the Dragon and they broke in a bit and performed very well on the twisty roads. The temps were in the low 50s and I really liked how the turn in felt with the 235 front. I actually had a GoPro mounted for fun on the door and watching the cornering there was very little sidewall flex. The tires did seem a bit loud but maybe that's just the regular noise that you get with a 996. They may quiet down as they break in more.
I have the Pilot Sports Cup 2s on my C4S, which replaced my Sumitomos after 2 solid track days. They’re quieter, are fantastic on the road, and the car doesn’t feel as “floaty” in the rain.
I have been using Sport Cup 2s on the street (30%) and Track (70%) for about 2 years. Currently I am getting an entire season out of the front tires (~20 track days) and about 4 weekends out of the rears. Amazing track tire, and ok on street to about medium rain level. If it is raining heavy, I can barely get to 40mph. This comes up rarely so it is not a big deal to me. Love this tire.
