Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Greetings folks, I just had a quick question. I have a 2001 C2 with the clear front rounded lights, with an amber bulb. However, the early cars came with the Boxster "fried egg" lights with the real amber plastic portion. My question is - is the amber indicator just a piece that can come on an off? As in, can I convert my current headlights back to real fried eggs just with those little lenses, or is it all one unit and I need to buy boxster fried eggs? Thanks in advance! I've never had the light unit apart...yet. -Matt

The triangle piece on the corner can be clear or amber but the amber indicator part of the headlight is not interchangeable.

That is correct and sorry I didn't mention it.

Based on the parts diagram above, it does not look like you can purchase just the lens cover (with amber indicator part OP wants). Does anyone know if just a new lens can be purchased? I know swapping it would involve splitting the headlight, but I'd consider it if I could buy new lenses. Have not tried to restore mine yet, but mine look like they have crazing/spiderweb cracking on the INSIDE of the lens...

Matt, As an old RL friend, I would say don't do it. Especially with an Aero car which I think would be aged with the install of those. However, everyone should do what they think looks good to them so here are my suggestions for options: 1) I have a friend who has a boxster with Amber lights who would be happy to swap with you. (I can help make this happen) 2) I would call Norspec Dismantling, I am pretty sure they have a set you can buy pretty cheap and just swap out and see if you like it but keep the original if you ever decide to sell the car. (I already reached out to them since they are local to see if they have em) 3) I would just leave it as is. In fact, I did the opposite, I took out the inner amber lens (amberectomy) and put in a silverized amber bulb so there isn't even a hint of amber even behind the may lense. (To me this is a really cool mod and I can help you with this as well) BTW, someone on this forum commented on the stance of the car with these cargraphic wheels and wanted them a few years back...If you are still on forum, these wheels are for sale.

My 1999 C2 has the amber lenses, washer and turn signal. If you want to swap, I'm open to the idea since I'm going to be getting covers for the lights and it doesn't matter what's underneath. The washers will come with, or you can install clear lenses over that part.
