I do have a porsche mechanic that will take care of most of my major services but he's an hour away and I wasn't planning on leaving my car with him for a month or two, when my clutch needs replacing (bought it at the end of its life).

It's also another reason to be picky on where to get the alignment done so they have the right know how to handle the porsche set ups for alignment.

My dealer/warranty company just sent my 2002 C2 Cab out for four wheel alignment and corner balance and they (exclusively) use Dave's Frame and Alignment in Huntington Beach.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm a new porsche owner, don't even have a picture of it yet, but I will take some this weekend. I'm not rich (yet) so I bought used, but it's beautiful and I love it Anyway it's a 2003 Carerra coupe (2wd) 6spd, blue. Haven't made myself up to speed on all your lingo/abbreviations yet, but in time.... Anyway, I also wanted to ask if anyone had a recommendation for a shop that can do an alignment in Orange County, CA? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Welcome. Looking forward to seeing the pics. I think you'll love your new Porsche.

POST 3Original post

Enjoy !!! Mine still brings a smile to my face everyday.

POST 4Original post

Welcome - dont have to be rich, just smart (dont know where I fit into this then )

POST 5Original post

Welcome! No suggestions on shops since I'm in Orlando Florida!!!

POST 6Original post

Pics of you and your new porsche, or it never happened!

POST 7Original post

Welcome to Rennlist! Welcome to the 996 Forum (the BEST forum in the 'List). And welcome to the world of the Porsche 996, which all here equally worship. I'm surprised that our Official Greeter, Tim, aka GOTA911 (he no longer does, but you'll like him, anyway), has yet to arrive. But he will. Eventually. The guys here will rag on you a bit until you post pics of your car. It is part of our welcoming hazing for new arrivals. Things are starting to warm up for the winter "Crazy Threads" season. Get a comfy seat, something fun to drink, and enjoy your stay with us. P.S. We are NOT the rich guys on this forum. The nearly rich guys are on the 997 forum. The trying to be rich guys are in the GT3 forum. The mostly rich guys are on the Turbo forum. The truly rich are on the Carrera GT forum.

POST 8Original post

Welcome. Hope you enjoy it -- especially since '03 is a superior year.

Hello Kristyhana, welcome to the forum. I hope your car does fine for you. Is there any problems with your alignment now? Some tires make noise at different levels of their wear. The car will wear out the rear inner faster. I think thats mostly from not flying the turns to keep things wearing even, but thats my attitude. If you do have an alignment problem just give the symptoms and you'll get some input for sure. Good luck getting a good place that undetstands setting up your car right. There are some different ways to align the car. One good for sport/race feels wrong on the street till you stay on the gas. Since the engine is in the rear the weight makes the rear more prone to slide than other cars correctable by gas or what not. Since the rear slides before the front it is called an "oversteer". "Understeer" is when the front slides first when breaking loose. Another term is "Wooooohoooo" which is what you have now thinking of having the nice little 911 to play in. Have fun. Winter? I can't find that term in my dictionary? Of I found it, "Winter Surf". Your just too smart.

POST 10Original post

Pics or Ban..... we will be waiting.... and Welcome.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok I added an avatar pic. It's kinda small tho huh. It's the only one I have until I take pics of my own. Thanks for the other welcomes though I will definitely get pics of MYSELF AND THE CAR in the near future so you all don't ban me As for the alignment - the car veers to the right. I bought it with brand new tires on it, so I don't know the wear yet, but I'd rather have the alignment done before I find out I did find a couple porsche-only shops in the area but don't have any personal reviews/recommendations yet. I do have a porsche mechanic that will take care of most of my major services but he's an hour away and I wasn't planning on leaving my car with him for a month or two, when my clutch needs replacing (bought it at the end of its life). I'd like to the get the alignment done sooner rather than later, so I was looking for someone local. Anyone here from SoCal?

POST 12Original post

Love that color blue! Good luck with the car! And I can't imagine there not being at least 20 good mechanics in SoCal!? Come on CA people, am I wrong?

POST 13Original post

Nice looking C2 '03, welcome to the forum. Are the tires new? Must be lots of good alignment shops nearby, maybe other owners will chime in with a suggestion.

POST 14Original post

Also, when you go to the alignment shop, make sure they don't scratch up your rim edges when they install the mount things on the wheels.

POST 15Original post

I vote we ban california "GUYS". You are going to find out the rear end gets an alignment just like the front you might be used to. This is one of the reasons Porsche handles good. It's also another reason to be picky on where to get the alignment done so they have the right know how to handle the porsche set ups for alignment.

GEEZ I must need thicker glasses.... how can you tell his tires are new from that little freaking picture THAT'S NOT A PICTURE !!! and PLEASE read my "post of the year" link in signature....(click it) paying especially close attention to #5

POST 18Original post

Not in Orange County, but in Los Angeles, try West End Alignment. Look for threads through a search. Need to make an appointment. Guy will have you sit in the car while it's being aligned to get it right. Have fun and congrats on your new car.

POST 19Original post

Congrats, get some pics fast.....Also, I'm in North Texas. Bring your car here to RAC Performance

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7936818

I already said that I haven't taken pictures of it yet. That one in my avatar is from the sale ad that I bought it from, and yes I asked him first. I haven't even owned the car for a week yet, so I will take pictures this weekend when I'm actually out during the day. I do have to work to pay for this ya know Also, I am not a " he " so does #5a come into play?

POST 21Original post

OHHHHHHHHHHH In THAT case.... pics of the car WITH YOU are MOST APPOPRIATE !! I hope you understand we are having fun and not too serious... its just the "flavor" of the forum to give the new guy (gal in this case) a little hard time to see how they react .. all in good sporting fun..... (But do post a pic.... WITH YOU )

POST 22Original post

POST 24Original post

LOL @ David... I had a great day and the weather was awesome for a drive, took off work early and hit the road, roof open and a flat 6 for music.... awe, life aint bad....today

POST 25Original post

Die, bastard! We have threats of a tropical storm dropping 6 inches of rain with wind over 40 mph. But one week from today, I drive 500 miles back to Ohio farmland for the first week of turkey season! I know this road...

POST 26Original post

I saw on the news.. .looks a tad wet, like home... I actually dont miss it though, our rain will last all winter but I think we are going to have a couple weeks of summer now that summer is over - we missed summer, went from spring right to fall, now back to summer?

POST 27Original post

I would recommend you join the PCA, and tap into the Orange County Region's website for good recommendations for local shops. You can also post down below in the region-specific forums for a little better chance of local recommendations. Nice looking car, welcome.

POST 28Original post

Great idea to join PCA. In fact, there is a breakfst meeting tomorrow at Original Mike,s in Santa Ana for the Orange Coast Region of Porsche Club of America. People start to gather at about 8:00, breakfast is around 9 am. There is usually around 70-80 cars, all vintages. Lots of people to talk with that can suggest shops in your area. Original Mike's 100 S. Main St. (corner of Main St. and 1st) Santa Ana, CA 92701 I will be there tomorrow morning and would be happy to introduce you around. Ask for Laura Hergesheimer.

POST 29Original post

Kristy, Welcome to Rennlist and Congrats on getting the 996! Now lets get down to business! As a few others have already mentioned, it is customary for Newbies to tell us a little about their car and to post pics. So consider this next sentence your "Newbie Initiation." Come on, Newbie, post the !@#$%^&* pics!

POST 30Original post

Congratulations - these are awesome cars. I have had my 996 for only about a month a half now and use it as my daily commuter car. Everyday I like it more and more - leaning more about what it can do. I purposely leave the radio off most of the time just so I can hear the engine as I whine through the gears. I actually look forward to driving into work in the morning - just for the ride. I am sure you will have a similar experience - enjoy!

POST 31Original post

Try Johnson's Alignment in Torrance. Steve (owner) is a POC member/racer. They've aligned my cars since 2000. http://johnsonsalignment.com/default.htm West End Alignment is also a shop that seems to have a good rep, so it's up to you

Hi Laura! I assume you are associated with Hergesheimer Motorsports? I have been talking to Eric there about getting my car aligned, actually. I was just referred by a friend, Marie, she has a white Cayman, maybe you know her? Anyway, thanks for the heads up on the meet tomorrow, I wish I could make it but I have plans already. But I think I will join PCA and hope to make it to another event. Thanks for the welcome!

POST 36Original post

Oh yes, I know Marie. She is an enthusiast. She actually participates in autocross with the PCA in San Diego and Orange County. If she could be on a course every weekend she would!

POST 37Original post

I used Grand Prix Performance on Newport Blvd. in Costa Mesa (Newport Beach) but that was over 5 years ago. They did a good four wheel alignment after I had two rear tires put on my '99 C2 Cab. My dealer/warranty company just sent my 2002 C2 Cab out for four wheel alignment and corner balance and they (exclusively) use Dave's Frame and Alignment in Huntington Beach. I've heard many others use them as well. My car came back from them riding like it was on rails. No knowledge of the cost. Dan

Actually I've been talking with Eric and plan to bring the car in this week for the alignment Nice to hear others with good experience with them.
