My guess: previous owner(s) may have swapped rims.

Local, I can put eyes on it, test drive it, thoroughly inspect it before a formal ppi, meet and size up the seller, and not have to pay shipping or fly and drive costs.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I need some educated opinions from the group.
I've located a Guards Red/Savanna Beige 1999 911 with a legit factory aero kit. Also has options of full leather, 3-spoke wheel, draped leather front and back, Alu-look gauges, 18" turbo look wheels with colored crest, imprinted crest on headrests, 6spd and memory seats. Car has about 63,000 miles. Incredibly clean, 2-owner, lots of records available, no accidents and no IMS fix yet. All options have been verified by the under hood placard.
What say you for a fair offer?
That color combo is awesome, I bought a similar car but in yellow and paid 22k.. Mine had about 52k miles, aero kit, yellow (premium color), I am a 3rd owner, no accidents, no IMS fix (but 99 are dual row), sports seats, etc..
Does it have the LSD option (code 220)?
I would say you can pay in the range of 20-23k... Do you have any pics?.
That car looks great.. How much is he/she asking?
Here are some pics of my car so you can get an idea..

I have the basic clone of that one. Full leather, alum gauges and black interior. It will be interesting to see what that sells for. Like Neto says, 20-23 would be a good bracket. Hopefully it sells for a lot more to give me some hope on resale.
I just paid $22K for a 31K mile 99 with aero with leather dash, xenons, three spoke steering wheel, and pretty much everything except full leather. They were asking $25K, I bought it within a few days of it going up for sale.
Very close to mine, all the same except I have a few other options and the IMS was done early in its life (13k miles back in 02') and rms has been done. Lots of suspension upgrades and a few go fast bits. I have black interior and the GT3 wheels. I bought it with 68k miles in May, he was asking 25 or 26k initially, 3 months later lowered to 23k, I got it for 19k.
I now have 83k miles on her and put about 3 or 4k into service, parts, maintenance and a few fixes/mods. All in all I'm in love. I have a feeling that most Porsche's before 02' (Hold for the CGT, those have doubled in asking price recently) are starting to appreciate.
Also, check the condition of the tires, anything below 2/32nd would be considered illegal in most states and wont pass inspection.. A new set for these cars goes for around $700+ (depending on what you get)...
ya, $27K is crazy money for a '99 - Aero or not. Oh well. Maybe check back with the seller in a month when he still has it. This is a rather difficult time of year to sell a sports car too. Maybe he doesn't really want to sell, he just needs to tell his wife he is "selling it" - wink, wink!
I sold a 2006 Corvette coupe with under 25K miles for similar $ a few months ago to purchase my '99. One major factor in that move was to take a bunch of $$ out of my cars to use for some other priorities.
There is no way I would have made an even trade for the two cars, even for that red Aero car. That just makes no sense to me!
He's a nice gentleman and was pleasant to deal with. But he's just not accepted what the market currently supports. It's unfortunate for he and I both. My search continues for a non-silver Aero...

I've located a '99 Aero with 46,000 miles near me. It appears to be Seal Grey. Gonna go for a test drive in the morning. The price is certainly right but she comes with no history, which sorta makes me uneasy.
Its a red one which is not common. It is a factory areo. It has a lot of the options that are not found very often. It looks clean in the pics, I think it will bring 25. He could sell it tomorrow for 23. Condition sells cars and it looks great in the picture.
Agreed. But he said he could ask 30 for it and felt 27 was probably too low. So he will eventually either not sell and have to lower the price or someone will pony up the big bucks. Just won't be me.
In Sept this year I purchased the similar car with all options except full leather and crest on seats. In addition I had big red brakes and LSD. 1999 29,000 miles for $23,500. He's smoking crack, as I feel I overpaid a little, but daddy wanted his Porsche!
Anyone have a comment as to why the Porsche CoA says the car should have colored crests on the wheels' center caps yet they clearly don't in the pics? And if the car is a C4, shouldn't the rear lid say "Carrera 4"?

My guess: previous owner(s) may have swapped rims. Or the crests may have been stolen? Or PO did not want/like colored crests?
Similar guess with the badging: previous owner(s) may have removed it??
Just heard from the dealer. Apparently the car was hit in a parking lot while parked and a front fender was damaged but fixed by a Porsche shop. Supposedly records exist. Depending on the results of a PPI, what say you on pricing?
My swag is $23k due to the '01 year, lower mileage, C4 and Aero.
That red one was gorgeous, but I'm a sucker for guards red. Although I love guards red over tan interior, tan interior just doesn't age as well as black. That being said, the black one is my 996's younger brother. I love my black 996 . . . for about a day after I wash it. Black exteriors give you gray hair.
Also, it's hard to see in the pics, but the brake calipers look black on the black car. They should be silver on a C4. A pic of the frunk will tell you for sure - look for the "derby hat" plastic cover.
I think you're right. They have it listed as a C4, but everything points to it not being one. They even have a Porsche CoA and it says nothing about being a C4. This thing is way overpriced. It's nicely loaded but between only being a regular Carrera and having an incident on it' history, it makes me think this is only a $20 or $21k car.
An extra $5K for the 'right' car IMHO isn't a deal breaker...What makes it the 'right car?
Exceptional condition, inside and out. Could pass for a 1-2 year old car.
Local, I can put eyes on it, test drive it, thoroughly inspect it before a formal ppi, meet and size up the seller, and not have to pay shipping or fly and drive costs.
The right color and options for me.
No current issues (I personally don't consider an original IMSB an issue).
100% stock, not f'ed with by anyone other than a dealer or top indy shop (this is important to me, perhaps not important to others. No problem modifying cars, I just like to do it my self or absolutely know it was done right.).
A '99 C2 with factory aero in guards red isn't my thing, but if it was, paying $27.5K for a car that hits
all
of the above points vs. $23K for a car that doesn't is (again, IMHO) money well spent. Yes, others may be getting 'better' deals. Or not. I can't tell you how many cars I've looked that are described in excellent condition and look that way in pictures, but don't even come close to meeting my expectations for cosmetic condition when I see them in person, or are cars that I immediately would need to put $2-$5K into. Not what I'm looking for, bargain or not.
And sometimes the 'second best' deal is also o.k.
Example: I passed on a local 996 Turbo a few months ago. It was a really honest car. Local, 1 owner, driven by an enthusiast not afraid to drive it as it was meant to be driven (ie: not a garage queen) but very well maintained with full documentation. Not perfect, but the minor cosmetic flaws were known and correctable.
VERY GOOD price, but seller was not negotiable at all, and my friend had recently bought his turbo at a ridiculously good deal. Very good deal wasn't good enough for me (hell, I needed a ridiculously good deal as well!), seller not negotiable irritated me a bit, and it didn't have sport seats which I really wanted, so I passed. Wish I hadn't... Looked at quite a few since then, nothing as good for the money. The ones that appear to be great deals are usually overrepresented and disappoint when you actually see them and/or are 1,200 miles away and would cost me hundreds just to figure out if they are even worth considering. So I'm still looking for the right 'reasonably priced 996 Turbo' when I could be driving one.
Anyone ever seen the option code XAE? The Porsche dealer VIN site lists it as "XAE Aerokit "Carrera" $6,580.00". The car is a 2001 and has the Aero fascia and rockers, but the wing is sort of like a whale tail and not a taco. I've never seen this before.
You are and I'm jealous of you two. I haven't touched the controls of a light aircraft in over 9 years and I miss it.
Btw, I had a 130kt
headwind
at FL370 two weeks ago. That definitely sucked.
130 kt headwind is insane. That would actually push my aircraft back in time. Us little guys are jealous that you can cruise in the flight levels. I am typically stuck at 7000 dodging the old guys that only fly once a quarter. Great fun in the pattern with them too.
I would love to but I think I'm going to be forced to ship the car. It comes with an extra set of all season tires and an extra set of winters and I simply have no way to get those items home with me if I drive her home. Anyone know of a good teletransportation service? Haha
Box and ship the rims, stick a label on the tires and send them UPS. When I buy tires online, the tire shows up with a label on it.
Or - mount a trailer hitch on the 996 and drag a trailer.
Gulp.....
Oh, and I hope you don't have to drive a ScareBus 3XX. I hate those things.
Yeah I'm contemplating that or shipping them via my airline.
No Scarebus for me at the moment. Mine is slow and Brazillian, but very reliable and I guess that's what counts at the end of the day.
If anyone is interested in the Speed Yellow Aero, it is located in Provo, UT at Naylor Auto Inc. I'm passing on it due to price and limited options. Plus I would have to have it shipped back.
I put a deposit on this one today. 63,000 miles. Factory Aero, tons of options including Alu look gauges, LSD and T/C. I can't imagine there are many Arena Red Aeros with LSD out there....
You done goodlish. I wanna ride when it gets here.
The 928 crew has a Sat bkfst every first sat of the month. We allow other models in to make fun of. I don't think anyone will be making fun of you with that.
I'm gonna call that speed yellow, see if I can knock a few thou off. Go ski, pick up car, drive home. Works for me.
Thanks. I'll be sure to take you up on that.
I hope you can get the yellow one. Supposedly there was another interested gentleman who offered $24.5k but I'm not sure that they considered him as serious of a buyer as I. It seems to be a great car and will be even better if you can get the price down more.
Thanks. Arena Red, while not my first choice initially, can look stunning in the sunlight. It's got the stupid headlight covers so I'll have to take those off. Hopefully the lens beneath aren't damaged in the process. PPI is tomorrow with Game-Face Motorsports. Fingers crossed.
I have the same headlight covers as you, which came on the car. Because I don't get to see other 996's except here in pictures, I have grown to really like them. And I looked at taking them off, but they look to be on there very, very well, so they stay in place for now.
I think the Arena Red looks great! My Seal Grey Metallic also has the headlight covers. I have some concerns that taking them off will both ruin them, and reveal damages lenses. Then I'd have to spend some money.
I don't hate them, so they'll stay for now!
I am a bit indifferent on the 996 headlights.... Like the MkII's, MkI's a bit less.
By far, the best headlight mod I've seen is when the headlight shell itself is disassembled and the inside portion *except* for the headlight bucket itself is painted black and body color. I personally think this looks better than the trim rings that sit on top, but agian, I don't mind them 'original' either.
Looks best on dark cars though... no real point on silver. Not my pic's... poached from another forgotten Rennlister.
I love the MkI headlights. So between that and the double row bearings, MkI's are all I've been interested in. I do like the headlight mod you posted though.
I never gave the headlights any thought until I got on this board and read all the opinions and comments about them. My car has Litronics with washers. As far as the looks go I wish it didn't have the washers which I will most likely never use. In the real world I doubt anybody notices the little ugly bump the washer nozzle makes but now that I've heard so much chatter about the headlights they seem to stand out. Oh well I guess thats the way it is.
