Recently i replaced the V reg on the alternator and did the additional ground wire and Positive wire as described in one of the posts about low charging voltage.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Car info: 1999 C4 with 135K Last week i noticed that the Battery/charging light would flash on when i reved above 6500. As soon as i back off they go off. Then i tried it again and it did not happen. This morning it happened again but there were several lights that lit up. can't say for sure what they all were because they were only on for a second or so. Recently i replaced the V reg on the alternator and did the additional ground wire and Positive wire as described in one of the posts about low charging voltage. Any ideas about what sort of gremlin i have running about in my electrical system?

POST 2Original post

If the voltage regulator is "new," then my WAG is your alternator is on its way out. Just recently, I had the "battery/generator" light come on. Had a local auto parts store check both battery and alternator...clerk said both OK. Then a few days later, dash lit up like a Christmas tree and my local indy diagnosed my alternator as TOAST. OPTIONS: rebuild your current unit. Or buy a reman. The new Porsche labeled units are waaay too expensive. FWIW, I bought a BOSCH (the maker of the OEM units) reman for around $250+ -ish.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Confirmed it's the altenator. Got it to do it again and noticed the volt gauge drop from 14 to about 12 when the lights came on at about 6500. Guy at the local auto electric place says my brushes could be floating if the slip rings are are not in good shape. The brushes are new as part of the new regulator.

POST 4Original post

Depending on how long the regulator (brushes) has been in there the brushes may bed-in and start to behave as you put some miles on them.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My thoughts exactly. Going it a few K on the milage and see what happens.
