Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I know I've used my enthusiast cable to read data from more than three cars.

Suggestion
I called and asked them about this as it was suggested that you could use the Durametric to read the DME and check for over-revs when considering a car purchase, but you certainly didn't want it to couple on of your three vins on a car you were just looking at.
Leading evidence: 'Use enthusiast cable' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check over-revs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I picked up a used Durametric cable on ebay with one vin slot filled. I plugged the cable into one of my cars and everything seems to work. I was never asked to enter a VIN. What conditions trigger having to activate a VIN? Is it obvious in the user interface how to do this when it is needed?
Pretty impressive the things it can monitor. I can't wait to use it for diagnostics.
Thanks!
PS. I have a Foxwell NT-510 that I'd sell now that I have the Durametric. Drop me a PM with an offer.
It kind of begs the question of what happens when you plug it into the fourth car? Does it just fail to work? Or are you given the option to buy more vins? Imagine if you were car shopping and just wanted to evaluate data like range 1/2 ignitions on several cars you are considering....
Per the Durametric FAQ website, you can check how many VINs the tool has been seen.
Question:
How do I check the VINs stored by the tool?
Answer:
Connect the tool to the computer, open the program, and go to Tools Tool Information.

Does it just fail to work? - YES
Or are you given the option to buy more vins? - NO

Thanks!
Interesting design. I've been in the software industry for longer than I care to say, and there is an architectural principal around "failing gracefully". This is not failing gracefully...

Durametric does give you the option of upgrading to the pro version by just paying the difference. Not sure if its an exchange program or a software download.
Not easy to find, but it is there somewhere in the FAQ's.
Question:
Can I add VINs to my Enthusiast cable?
Answer:
No. The Enthusiast kits support only three VINs. If more VINs are needed, all Enthusiast kits can be upgraded to Professional for only the difference in price plus shipping.
Again, they told me they'd erase one time for free then a nominal charge if it needed to be done again. It's been a year or two since but I'll try and find that email exchange.
I know this is an older thread, but my understanding is that you can *read* multiple cars without it coupling to the VIN. It's only when you use it to do more advanced functions that it VIN couples.
