Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
Rennlist: 1 discussions
0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Funny it worked one time out of the blue last week but now wont work at all.
I have not swapped out my headlights yet, but plan to because I can only see about 15 feet in from of me with the ones it is wearing now! I just bought the car very recently and am not a Porsche expert or anything near that. However, my HIGH BEAMS work when I pull the turn signal/high beam switch, but not if I push it to the ON position. Funny it worked one time out of the blue last week but now wont work at all. I am having the same exact problem with my Boxster. Both are 2003. Seems like a common problem to me but I have not read a thread on it yet. Can anyone shed light on why the High Beam ON switch does not work?? And how do I know if it is an MK1 or MK2, or does that not exist for my 03 Porsche's? Thank you for any insight.
Switch unit is a common failure,, MY 03 has history of 2 being replaced in its life. so I'm running the 3rd switch,
first time the headlight side went wonky second time it was the Wiper half..
There is also a lighting control module I believe that can have issues..
Both done before I got the car,, I'd do it myself if it comes up again,, its not much different than any german car..
My bentley manual has it detailed with enough to get me through it..
Oh,, the connectors Porsche uses on those circuits are jenky... I'd kill for Delphi instead..
I cleaned mine thoroughly and used electrical grease on them,, the turn signals got nicely brighter..
Ok really dumb question ,, but,, are you just driving on the filler lights? (Sort of DTR style) Are your main bulbs actually on?
Just got to wondering after I read the last post..
One failure mode of the headlight switch is it stops before hitting the
headlight ON position but markers and dash will be lit up..
Also, I have had problems with an ignition switch issue as the the cause....do your wipers work....if they also don't work then it's the ignition switch

You know I've been wondering too if the real headlights actually come on at all too! I will have to check and see if I have any headlights. If not, is it my headlight switch? The round one on the dash??
Thanks for all the replies guys. Lots of help. But I am sure I have headlights on the Boxster. Just no high beams. So now I have two separate issues. Gets better all the time.
Not such a dumb question PDXMOTORHEAD..........I always thought it seemed like I didnt have lights all the way on. I will have to check, but I believe I only have the lower bulb on, which might just be the driving light and no headlight at all! If thats the case, do I have a bad light switch on the dash?? How tough are they to replace?
But I still have the high beams issue on the Boxster. I do know I have headlights on there, just no high beam unless I pull the switch for a temporary high beam.
Now I know more, but now I have 2 separate issues! Thanks for all the information guys. I searched YouTube for an answer, but came up with nothing there.
