Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

All voltages are at 20 C, and must be adjusted -0.022V/C for temperature changes (negative temperature coefficient - lower voltage at higher temperature).
Leading evidence: 'Adjust 0.022v/c' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust 0.022v/c' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

26 year Porsche owner but new to the 996....
I recently purchased a 1999 996 with 67k and put just about a 1k miles on it with no problems until the last few days. Last night it all came to an end.
I have been experienicing an intermittent Brake Pad indicator and Brake Fluid level warning light issue. Turned the car off and back on, the light would go away and no problems.
Last night was a competly different story. We had a good heavy rain here in NJ of which the Porsche sat out in. I started the car went down the road, hit the Brake Pedal and the car stalled. Started back up, no problem. Went a few more miles, hit the brake and the car stalled again. Again, started back up no problem. 30 miles later, I hit the turn signal and all hell broke loose on the dash. Every warning light on the dash lit, the speedo stopped, the tach stopped and no brake lights. The dash was complexly freaking out except the fuel gauge. I hit the brake and of course the car stalled. Coasting to the side of the road, waited for a minute and it started back up. Down the road a few more mile and a simple touching of the brake would stall the car. This went on for an hour. I went out this morning and nothing! Only half lit, dim, warning lights. Will not start, or even turn over. If I wiggle the ingition key in the ingition the fuel gauge drops and the oil level indicator flashs and freaks out. Any thoughts? Ignition Switch? Bad Ground?
The previous owner did change the immobilizer a few months ago…
New battery installed a few weeks ago.
I have had 5 Porsches over the years and never experienced an issue like this. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
i am new to these cars too so i dont really have any specifics. new battery - double check installation. what is voltage with car off? voltage with car on? i believe a low but not dead battery can result in weird dash lights. hitting the brakes and stalling? visual inspection of wear sensors on brake pads? on mine if you touch the brake pedal while giving gas, the throttle gets cut automatically - psm? what is the immobilizer you refer to? factory or aftermarket? i hope you figure it out quickly.
First check your battery voltage, should be at least 12.25 volts 1/2 charge. If that is good then see below.
Might be related to sitting out in rain. If you can, open the frunk and check for water in the front bulk head area around/next to the battery. Under the perforated black plastic covers you will see that the area is not sealed from the weather. There are drains in there to let the water out, 4 on a 2003 not sure if 99 has 4.
Anyway if there is standing (sloshing?) water in there it can get pulled into & through the brake booster and stall the engine. Also the water can get into the wiring behind the dash.
The open circuit voltage, is measured when the engine is off and no loads are connected. It can be approximately related to the charge of the battery by:
Open Circuit Voltage (12 V) Approximate charge Relitive acid density
12.65 V 100% 1.265 g/cm3
12.45 V 75% 1.225 g/cm3
12.24 V 50% 1.190 g/cm3
12.06 V 25% 1.155 g/cm3
11.89 V 0% 1.120 g/cm3
Open circuit voltage is also affected by temperature, and the specific gravity of the electrolyte at full charge.
The following is common for a six-cell automotive lead-acid battery at room temperature:
Quiescent (open-circuit) voltage at full charge: 12.6 V
Fully discharged: 11.8 V
Charge with 13.2–14.4 V
Gassing voltage: 14.4 V
Continuous-preservation charge with max. 13.2 V
After full charge the terminal voltage will drop quickly to 13.2 V and then slowly to 12.6 V
Open circuit voltage is measured 12 hours after charging to allow surface charge to dissipate and enable a more accurate reading.
All voltages are at 20 C, and must be adjusted -0.022V/C for temperature changes (negative temperature coefficient - lower voltage at higher temperature).
"If I wiggle the ingition key in the ingition the fuel gauge drops and the oil level indicator flashs and freaks out. Any thoughts? Ignition Switch?"
Assuming your battery is good.
START with the ignition switch. A common problem, cheap and easy to replace.
After that we can go from there... corroded wiring/etc, less likely or common.
Solved! Ignition Switch was the problem. Who would have thought all that chaos would have been created by the ignition switch?!?!
A local Audi dealership had the swith in stock with part number 4A09058849B ($42.00) and thanks to the posts here on RL the whole job took about 40 minutes and cured all the electiral issues thus far.
I thank all who replyed with suggestions. fpb111, thanks for all the info that will be useful in the future.

The previous owner/s must have had a bunch of keys hanging off the ignition keychain. Remove all but the car ke and it will make the swich last a lot longer.
