I'd also like to replace the IMS/RMS for piece of mind, and figure I'd kill three birds with one stone.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good mechanic in Los Angeles to replace the IMS/RMS/Clutch?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey everyone,
My 2002 Targa has 79k miles on it, didn't come with a service history so I'm assuming it's still on the original clutch. The clutch pedal is quite heavy, which I'm thinking might mean its starting to fail. I'd also like to replace the IMS/RMS for piece of mind, and figure I'd kill three birds with one stone.
Does anyone have any recommendations on a good mechanic in Los Angeles to replace the IMS/RMS/Clutch? I've only had the car a few months, and have only had some minor repairs done by Beverly Hills Porsche. Also, what should I expect to pay?
Or should I just drive it until the clutch really starts to fail? It's possible a previous owner replaced it at 60k miles and something else is causing the stiff clutch pedal?
Thanks,
Chris
$1400 is a lot lower than I expected, here's what I just got back from R2 Racing in Santa Clarita:
"Clutch rms, and ims bearing parts and labor are $2800.00 a heavy pedal and clutch that releases high is an indication of time to do a clutch. Rms seal will be the latest version available."
I don't think my clutch isn't releasing high, so maybe its not time to do it yet?
Think the heavy clutch pedal could just be the assist spring failing? Maybe worth trying to install a new one for $80 before I get a new clutch?

I cannot comment on cost, but I can tell you I have been very pleased with EuroSpec Motoring (Pico at Hauser). Peter and Jeffrey have no airs about them, run a quality shop. I have both my 996 and my wife's A4 Cabrio serviced there and have sent several people there, all of whom were very pleased.
i highly, HIGHLY recommend Peter of Stuttcar in Pasadena.
very honest guy, quality work.

Anyone have any tips on how to diagnose if the assist spring is failing? I have a heavy clutch petal with a clicking sound near the bottom of the travel.
Thanks,
Chris
my clutch was very heavy and i also wanted to get ims/rms done(73k miles).
i just did mine in san jose area and it ran about $2,500.
(parts alone for LN bearing and clutch was probably half of that).
now my clutch is buttery smooth, and i also have peace of mind on the car.
bottom line, it's worth getting the clutch done now as trying to get the last 10% of usage(esp so stiff) is not worth it.
good luck.
Patrick
The clutch boost spring is a common issue and R2 racing can do the IMS bearing with RMS replacement for $1400 that's a GREAT DEAL!

I concur with Throttle - highly recommend EuroSpec Motoring. I've been using them for the last couple of years and have been very satisfied with their work.
$1400 sounds low...
Figure about $2500 for clutch IMSB (LN) AOS and RMS.
Stiff clutch is a symptom of a clutch going south. (at least it was in my case) If you wait too long on the clutch, you risk taking out the flywheel with it...
* I hear great things about Callas...
