Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

So is there a small fix for that or would I be looking at replacing the alternator at that point?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello Rennlisters! I'm relatively new here. Purchased an 03 996 C4S with 78k 3 or 4 weeks ago. She just starting to make a high pitched squeeling noise when I crank her up. I dug around and saw post about squeeling noise issues and there seemed to be multiple causes so I wanted to post my specific noise in hopes that I'd get a more accurate answer into what the issue might be. If you have a second and don't mind giving it a listen, you can hear it in the linked youtube video below.
Starts at 17 seconds in the video. As the engine cranks the revs go to 2k and the noise begins as the revs fall back down to 1k. The noise last only for a few seconds and then that's it. Does it on multiple cranks and will sometimes stop after a while... say if I'm running errands and engine gets warm. Some days it doesn't make the noise at all. Like yesterday, when I had an apt for Porsche to sort it out. Then other days it does it every time I crank it up. Noise seems to be coming from starter/alternator area. I appreciate any help you're willing to throw at this so thanks in advance! Think it might be hard to scope the noise since it's short in duration and doesn't always occur.

Quadcammer... Thanks for the input, it's much appreciated! So is there a small fix for that or would I be looking at replacing the alternator at that point? Thanks again!
It is easy to take poly belt off - there are good DIY videos on that. Then you can check for play in all the pulleys/bearings. If it is alternator - get a rebuilt unit and have local indie fit it ....can't be more than a hour labor ...
