I looked and the fuel gauge was reading empty and the light was on and the MLS was --- to 0 , so I drove it to the gas station and tried to fill it up, but it wouldn't take any more fuel because it was FULL, I disconnected the battery and put it on a charger for several hours I re connected the battery it and now the fuel gauge reads less than a 1/4 tank.

Then yesterday I went to start the 911 and the battery was almost dead but the car managed to start after several tries, I let it run for about 20 min so I could get some charge on the battery.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all so I have a 2004 911 AE and it sat in my garage for several months, I made sure there was a full tank of gas in it. Then yesterday I went to start the 911 and the battery was almost dead but the car managed to start after several tries, I let it run for about 20 min so I could get some charge on the battery. I looked and the fuel gauge was reading empty and the light was on and the MLS was --- to 0 , so I drove it to the gas station and tried to fill it up, but it wouldn't take any more fuel because it was FULL, I disconnected the battery and put it on a charger for several hours I re connected the battery it and now the fuel gauge reads less than a 1/4 tank. and the MLS reads 35 to empty, can anyone help?

POST 2Original post

Float in the tank, connected to the sending unit could be stuck. Could also be the sending unit.

after charging the battery it started reading just not full or even 1/2 tank

POST 4Original post

I have a question. When you first filled it up and parked it, dit the gauge indicate full? If it did, there is no way that it could sink down and indicate empty, nor could it be "stuck". On the otherhand, if the car was really low before you filled it, the gauge could be stuck on the supply lines. There was a bulletin about this from Porsche that suggested zip-tying the lines together so that they would not do this. I had this happen to my 2002 C2 and two zip ties fixed the problem. However, if you believe the gauge showed full when you parked it, then likely you have a guage problem. THey are known to be finikey.
