Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

On other people's 996es with the OEM housing, I've (carefully) used the above tool too.
Leading evidence: 'Use above tool too' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace oil' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Some client cars I can just use my hand too, some I use one of the 30+ filter sockets that I own.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anybody got a link to a tool from a common auto parts store (Napa, Advance, etc) for a wrench that will fit the filter housing? I'm in the middle of an oil change and can't remove the housing with my hands.
The one I'm looking at is:
https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...B&gclsrc=aw.ds
Just want to make sure it's the correct size.
Thanks.
I bought mine from FCP Euro along with a bundle of service parts. Best pricing with quick free delivery over $50 for the mid-atlantic and NE US as far as I know.
Not what you asked for but I always use a strap wrench and they work like a freaking charm. Bonus is this is the wrench with 101 uses.

This 74mm Motivx is definitely the way to go. Far better than the Assenmacher filter sockets. I have AST sockets for other vehicles, and I far prever the Motivx.
I had the right tool but the wrong car. I have a Napa Gold spin-on filter on the 996 which takes a 74mm 15 flute socket, the Motivx 74mm/14 is for the e30 filter. I still need to find a 15 flute version for the Napa Gold/Wix.
My car, with The IMS Solution spin on filter, I can just use my hand to loosen the filter.
Some client cars I can just use my hand too, some I use one of the 30+ filter sockets that I own.
The tool above is similar to what I use on client's cars where some yahoo has over torqued the spin on filter.
On other people's 996es with the OEM housing, I've (carefully) used the above tool too.
As I mentioned a few posts up, the 74mm 15 flute socket was too big for the Napa Gold filters. I can say for certain that this 7

mm 15 flute version
does
work.
