Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Everyone. I'm debating going back to the stock hollow spoke twists and need to buy tires for them since I just had them refinished. My car is lowered on H&R springs and want it to sit flush. Do I have to buy spacers to do this? What would the widest tire I could run so nothing was out of wack? It appears 225/40 295/30 is the stock fitment. Here is a pic of my car on the Champion wheels which I may sell.

POST 2Original post

I have run GT2 size tires on mine: 315/30-18 rears and 245/40-18 fronts. This fills the wheel wells nicely on the stock Turbo Twists 18x11 rear, 18x8 front. The thing to watch is that the rears can rub on the TT fender liners on the inner back corners. There's a metal brace behind the fender liner that holds the inner rear corner and if the tire wears through the plastic liner, the metal brace can cut through the tire very quickly. I cut the bottom inch or so off the brace and relocated the speed nut to the upper hole (you will see what I mean when you take it apart). Then I drilled a new hole in the liner to match the new speed nut location. After that I heated up the liner and bent it out of the way, now I have 1/2" clearance back there. Spacers would push the wheel out further, which might make it rub on the outside of the tire unless you roll the fenders. I did not roll the fenders or use spacers. Sometimes the fronts can rub, too, depending on how accurately the radiator brackets are installed. More heating and bending of the liners may be needed. There are threads on the Turbo section about this, too.
