Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install perfectly' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect battery' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I haven't reset mine after a long absence of battery, but Memory 2 I used a "slide seat back and tilt forward for easy entry/exit of car"

The only time I use the #2 button is for my reverse setting this way.

Yet when I use the key remote to lock and then unlock the car, the seat finds that long-ago previous setting.

I've even followed the manual's steps for clearing the stored seat positions from memory (key button and #2 button pressed simultaneously and held for 5 seconds); then went and reset all 3 buttons (as per the above paragraph), but still the problem remains as described above.

Following the manual, with the ignition on and having chosen my preferred seating position, I used the M, key, 1 and 2 buttons on the memory console (on the door sill) to set all 3 (key, 1 and 2) for that position (I am the only driver and use but one remote ignition key).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've followed all of the procedures spelled out in the Owner's Manual but to no avail.
The problem is that when I use the remote to lock and unlock the car, the driver's seat will return to some other position which it must have been taught/learned with a previous owner (someone who must have been considerably shorter than I am).
Following the manual, with the ignition on and having chosen my preferred seating position, I used the M, key, 1 and 2 buttons on the memory console (on the door sill) to set all 3 (key, 1 and 2) for that position (I am the only driver and use but one remote ignition key). Yet when I use the key remote to lock and then unlock the car, the seat finds that long-ago previous setting. Any of those 3 buttons will bring the seat to my favored position, but I cannot get the system to "forget" that old setting.

Just a bit of a PITA every time I park and lock the car to have to use one of the buttons to put the seat back in my favored position. Anyone know of a work-around to get this resolved (short of visiting the stealership)?
To set my seat I used #1 and memory buttons only. #2 does not come into the equation (AS YET) as I am the only driver. Then I hold the #1 and memory for the 5 seconds and bingo. From then on my seat stays where it was set. No matter if I use the key fob opening or the key in the drivers door. The only time I use the #2 button is for my reverse setting this way. I lower my seat position, and both outside reversing mirrors so I can see a kerb line. Set it by holding memory and #2 for 5 seconds. After finishing my reversing, I push #1 and hold it (alone) until my driving position and outside revrsing mirrors are back where they were originally. Yours should do likewise.

james bond cool.
Simply put: How do I go about purging/erasing the rogue seat position out so when I use the key-fob to lock/unlock the door it's not screwing my intentions??? Other than that one issue, everything else in this system is working as it should.
Maybe if you disconnect the battery for an hour or so the seat memory would need to be reset thus solving your problem. BEFORE doing so you will need to know your radio code for your radio to work again. That is only a guess on my part BTW but worth a try.
Thanks, Hurdi, but I'm not looking to go on a fishing trip. Trying to find if there's a proven, definitive fix. My shadetree fix is to set the seat and pull the fuse.
When you cleared the stored seat position using the key button and the #2 button was the ignition switched on?? It has to be on for the clearing process to work.
Try the 997 process?
Clearing the stored seat position
1. Switch the ignition on with the desired vehicle
key.
2. Press memory button twice and key button 1
once consecutively
2004 4S cab new to me. Came with one key. Similar to the above and others on the board, when I unlock with fob, seat goes to crazy position (full back and full down - so far down it presses against rear seat - and mirrors full down).
I have tried all iterations of the above and on the similar discussions. Planning on getting a new key/fob from Porsche on Saturday (such a ripoff) and seeing if they can fix this fob. I had an independent look at it in SF and they actually blew the seat fuse when because of the straining seat motor against rear seat when they were testing it. I have done the fuse removal trick but I sometimes like slight adjustments on longer trips because my *** is as old as I am. My son recommended throwing the key really hard at the wall -- but I'll keep that in my back pocket.
