Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The 16 bit PCM 1.0 was changed sometime during Q3 2002 to 2.0 so some 2002 996's use the older non MOST Siemens units...

That's what I did and works perfectly (except where roads have actually changed which goes without saying)

When the later update came out (I think it was the 2009 version), it had 6 discs for the US and it required a firmware update which was on one of the discs.

At some point I will replace the entire unit with a modern Nav system, but not now.

Does anyone have a known good 2009 version that would be willing to make a copy of the disc for the midwest that includes Michigan's lower peninsula that I can use for test purposes.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

We just aquired our 02 996 and it came with no navigation cc's. The seller says he never had them and didn't need the Nav so he never worried about them. The Dealer says that the last up-date for the Nav was 2009 so I thought that buying the entire set at $700 didn't make a lot of sense. I purchased, from e-bay a single disc for our area. The disc is a 2000 vintage and it won't load. I'm wondering since the Nav obviously had a version later than a 2000 installed at one point, if it would be the reason that mine won't load. At some point I will replace the entire unit with a modern Nav system, but not now. I would like to get to the bottom of this issue.

Thanks
The 2002 cars used PCM 2.0 right? I don't think it was 1.0, but I could be wrong because I know that PCM 2.0 used the MOST fiber optic ring in our Cayenne.
When the 2009 update came out for PCM 2.0, I had that system in our 2004 Cayenne. As I recall, the original set of discs that came with the car had only 2 discs for the entire US. It lacked detail and really only had major highways and freeways. When the later update came out (I think it was the 2009 version), it had 6 discs for the US and it required a firmware update which was on one of the discs. If your system has been updated to the newest firmware and software, then you may have an issue running the older disc. Hopefully a current disc will solve your problem.
2002 has PCM1 16 bit system. The latest disc you can get is 2002-03 vintage.
There are no updated for the PCM 1 16 bit system and there are no 2009 disks.
This is the PN and description for my CA/NV CD from 2002 car. Item information: Part # S0006-0111-301.
I doubt you will find too many people with PCM 1 16 Bit CDs laying around. They are very rare and very few of them stayed with their original cars.
It took me 8 months to find Southwest CD #2 on Ebay. I paid $170 for one used disk.
Your best bet is also E-bay, this seller frequently sells PCM CDs and has CORRECT descriptions and compatibility in his listings. I got my CD from him. This is one of his listings for PCM 3 map.

And the 09 update you may be thinking of is the Vauxhal Siemens CDs for Europe only.
^^True. Map also did not rotate, and your car was represented by the triangle. So if you are going North, you are driving UP; going South, driving DOWN.
OK, you can get maps up to 2010/11 but you need to update the firmware to the Opel version (will not make any visual changes to the layout) and then use the relevant Opel maps. The 16 bit PCM 1.0 was changed sometime during Q3 2002 to 2.0 so some 2002 996's use the older non MOST Siemens units...

Frank,
thanks for that info.
Can you tell us some specifics, like where to find update firmware, and how to do it?
Also, how to tell if we have 16bit PCM 1.0 or 2.0?
Thanks.
Don't waste time and money with any in-car nav system. They are obsolete before they ever leave the factory. It is like buying 8 track tapes...or cassettes. Put a "boob picture" from the forum onto your nav screen and buy a good smart phone and a Bluetooth connection for your car. The phone will be obsolete in 6 months to a year but it is easier and cheaper to replace. The boop picture should last much longer.
