I have the same car, a '99 C2 with about same mileage - the IMS and clutch were replaced at 93K in my case, which was 10K miles ago.

During muffler repair I have one of each on, and trying to make a decision on which ones to keep on.

I have decided to hold off on replacing the typical "scary" parts of a 996.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Greetings everyone:
This is the second year of owning a 99 C2, and I have made some interesting observations.
My wife found and bought me the car (she is awesome!), and this is my third Porsche. It is black, savanah beige interior, six speed, with 95k on the odometer.
What I have done:
GBox second detent
K&N air filter
Mobil 1 oil
Swepco gear box oil
Michelin super sports
Mufflers (stock to Mille Miglias to Tubis)
The car was purchased from a dealer in St. Louis, and I was able to obtain a pretty good history. Fluid changes and maintenance were great.
What I have not done:
IMS
clutch
water pump
The car is basically a daily driver, with the exception of snow and ice, and I am very happy with it.
When we first got it, the dreaded second gear pop-out was happening on occasion, which prompted research and the decision for the GBox and Swepco. Problem solved. Only drawback (for me), is in temperatures below 40, I need to leave the car in neutral with the parking brake on, for warming up, because the Swepco is thick. But, the smooth shifting was worth it.
I have decided to hold off on replacing the typical "scary" parts of a 996. I am going to drive it and enjoy it, and if I notice anything out of the ordinary, it will be addressed.
Ironically, on the previous Porsches, Hurst Olds, or big block Vette I have owned, I didn't worry about certain parts failing. If you saw, heard, smelled something out of place, you dealt with it.
Risky, maybe, but it runs great!

Glad to hear another owner is enjoying these wonderful cars. I try to drive it every chance I get. Got some crazy looks when four of us stepped out of that tiny sports car at a ski resort.
How was the gear detent install? I Have one on my shelf but haven't done it yet.
Enjoy it.

I am enjoying the heck out of the car as well! And I take the same approach as you - keep abreast of maintenance and watch for any funny business and investigate and replace as required!
Oh, and this car had similar trans problems at just over 90K miles like yours too. Luckily that was before I owned it!
Post some pics!
Thanks!
Here are a couple of quick pics.
I average about 7,500 a year.
Putting the Gbox in was easy, removing the original required a 4" 10mm bolt to be threaded into it to remove it. Had my mechanic do it, spent more time putting it on the lift and draining the gearbox oil. Besides not popping out of gear, it feels like it goes deeper into gear as well. I believe it is a tolerance issue.

Awesome car. Yours must be an early 99', as it has the orange tail lights like mine.
I have owned my 99' for three years now, and will probably keep it forever. Loving it.
Thanks for comments!
And yes, the tailpipes are different. Left side is Tubi, Right side is Mille Miglia. During muffler repair I have one of each on, and trying to make a decision on which ones to keep on.
